Meet Gabriella Ramirez

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gabriella Ramirez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Gabriella, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Hi, I’m Gabby I struggled with painful cystic acne for years. I tried everything from antibiotic shots injected into my face to prescriptions to ”cure” my skin, which aggravated my sensitive skin more. So I went to school as an esthetician to get down to the root cause. After graduating from beauty school I went to culinary school to pursue what I believed to be my calling. I saw so much waste that the food industry causes. I decided to work for an environmental non-profit that taught me so much about how so many industries hurt the planet. During the pandemic, I was encouraged by my family to combine my passion for healthy beauty, sustainability, and to honor her Indigenous roots and came up with Las Brewhas.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
We are so proud to be able to support Indigenous women-run tribes from the Amazon Rainforest, Ghana, and local farmers in the U.S. We are honored to have these connections and to have been able to go to Amazon and meet the tribes we source our ingredients from. We make sure that we pay all of our tribes fairly while they sustainably harvest from the lungs of our planet. If youd like to see our trip to the Amazon please follow our Instagram/TikTock and youtube at LasBrewhas.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
3 skills that have positively impacted our business

For sure our #1 is not being shy about who we are. This has taken me years to muster up the confidence to show my face on social media. This one skill has been by far the hardest for me but has been a huge game changer on how our customers interact with us and how much they buy from someone they feel like they have a personal relationship with.

Our #2 would be connecting with other businesses in similar fields but not the same industry they should be around the same size as you to see how they’re growing, and what tools you both can bring to the table and help each other from there.

#3 Ask people to be brutally honest with you, as a New Yorker this is something that comes easy to my friends and family but sugarcoating won’t help your business grow. It might hurt to hear one of your products suck and needs improvement but take that feedback to see is there room to make it better. Don’t let it hurt your ego or you can get stuck somewhere you might not want to stay.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
We are struggling to fundraise, I would love to hire a social media manager but we aren’t there yet in our journey. Like most small businesses we’ve applied for countless grants and have not heard back yet but we won’t lose hope.
