Meet Gabrielle Chen Gracilla

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gabrielle Chen Gracilla a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabrielle, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
I am lucky to be engaged to an extremely kind-hearted and generous person. I witness countless acts of kindness with the privilege of living by his side. I understand the feeling of happiness and fulfillment when I am of service to my children, my family, and the world. Our hearts become open with compassion when we are of service. We are humbled to think of our individual selves less.

I’ve received such a beautiful life and I’m thankful for my parents. I continue to enjoy learning from them every day! I have sisters who shower me with so much love. And I am so proud of my son who always shares his Monopoly money with me, and my daughter who likes to feed me! I have friends from many walks of life who show me nothing but kindness 🙂 I’m grateful for all the ways the universe flows through me.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Right now I am drawing a series inspired by 10 universal Buddhist offerings. Original sketches and coloring pages are on patreon.com/gabriellesartshow. I recently released some clothing and puzzles at www.gabriellesartshow.com. I also paint whatever I can whenever I can for whoever asks me 🙂

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. loving kindness for self 2. loving kindness for others
3. loving kindness for the world

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
I have the support of my parents in every stage. I see them loving my children every day with their whole hearts! When I was a single mother, I was welcomed back home and fed really delicious food. As I navigate my career, I am supported through the uncertainties and the celebrations. I am blessed by their prayers for good health, happiness, and prosperity!
