Meet Gabrielle Heslop

We recently connected with Gabrielle Heslop and have shared our conversation below.

Gabrielle, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience stems from a profound belief that I am destined for something greater than what’s currently in front of me. I’ve always felt a deep calling to step beyond the boundaries of what’s considered safe, driven by the conviction that God has a larger purpose for me on this earth. This inner drive is fueled not only by my faith but also by the desire to make my parents proud and to be able to support them financially.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am an actress with a background in theatre arts, having studied in NYC where theatre feels like home to me. Since moving to LA, I’ve expanded into the film space, working on commercials while striving to land a role in a sitcom or single-cam comedic show. Currently, my focus is on writing, a new journey for me beyond a small screenwriting course I took in college. I’m actively learning and growing in this space as I work on an animated series that I’m deeply passionate about, especially since it celebrates melanated children. I’m close to completing the trailer for this project and plan to shop it around soon. I firmly believe in the power of words, and I’m envisioning Tabitha Brown as the voice of one of the characters. This vision energizes me and keeps me moving forward. Joy is my brand, and I intend to spread it everywhere I go!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I believe it was being open to feedback, prioritizing healing, and constantly striving for growth. For anyone just beginning their journey, I’d advise being patient with yourself, offering grace, and making healing a top priority. When we walk in authenticity and truth, we’re better not only to ourselves but also to those around us.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

I was thinking of books that I have on my shelf and honestly I would have to say hands down The Bible. I have to say this because this book is in every season of my life and it has never left my side. It is what has caused me to grow, heal, and move forward. A verse that has been my constant is ” Trust in the Lord with all your heart, acknowledge him in all your ways and he will direct your paths” another is ” faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.” These verses help me in my darkest moments because I know that Jesus is walking with me and even ahead of on this journey and that promotes health, strength, and perseverance.
