Meet Gabrielle Stahlschmidt

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gabrielle Stahlschmidt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Gabrielle, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I have often found that music and counseling are closely related, which are two fields I have always been interested in pursuing. I found my purpose for teaching rooted in the desire to encourage and inspire people on an authentic, grassroots level. Since music is such a uniquely personal gift – with the voice being the most innately personal instrument to ever exist – through it, I get to encourage and empower strong, independent voices in amazing ways!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As a vocal teacher, I’m passionate about teaching everything a person needs for a strong foundation. On one hand, this means teaching the fundamentals of singing through vocal health, stylistic technique, theory and genre exploration, but it also means developing confident and meaningful voices, that both better and challenge the world of the arts!

At Gabrielle Studio Of Music, we combine one-on-one instruction with multiple live performances throughout the year, backed by a professional, 5-piece band. Stage performance is used to enhance the technique learned in private lessons, and is designed to showcase the foundational skills learned throughout the year.

While many of our students are active, successful performers, our goal is not to teach with a focus solely towards performance. We view performance as a tool for growth, and use the stage as a technical experience, where students have the opportunity to self-accompany, collaborate with others, arrange music, harmonize, and approach stage performance with skill and comfort, whether or not they ultimately choose to pursue performance as a career.

Students are also given opportunities to participate in studio open mic nights, community performance events, and recording projects.

Every program we offer is built on the principle of helping students truly understand how to use their voice, while giving them both the tools and freedom to grow as a unique artist.

The Own Your Voice Academy is an extension of our private coaching studio; at the academy, we specialize in teaching professional, collaborative music masterclasses, workshops, and intensives covering topics such as songwriting, recording, music technology, stylistic technique, and more! These continuing educations courses are designed to help you fine tune your vocal and performance technique, refine your music technology skills, better understand songwriting and recording processes, network with other creatives, and learn how to become successful as a well-rounded musician, in the professional music world. We have a variety of upcoming courses, such as commercial on camera classes, ukulele sip and strums and songwriter’s rounds, and further details can be found on our website!

Lastly, as a studio community, we are not just inwardly focused – we also began an inspirational clothing line called Well Worn Words Co., for the purpose of pouring into our community. We know that words alone aren’t enough to accomplish the change we want to see, so we turn our words into action by donating a portion of our sales directly to charities! Our sales currently benefit Operation Underground Railroad, in their mission to rescue and restore survivors of human trafficking.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Personally, the three qualities that have impacted me most are passion, perseverance, and never losing sight of the “why” behind what you do. Starting a business from the ground up is tough work, and often demands more than your all. In the toughest moments, and even in the best moments, what determines your true impact is the strength of and commitment to your “why”.

My biggest piece of advice to others who are looking to begin a business is to sit down and reflect on what you want your biggest impact to be, outline the steps to achieve those goals, stay committed to authenticity over brand, and then stay flexible, knowing that as you learn more, the finer steps will always change and grow.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am always looking for educators to collaborate with! Through my studio’s academy, I am constantly looking for guest speakers, music educators, music technology specialists, coaches, talent scouts and other business owners to lead our workshops, intensives, and career classes. My goal is to provide our students with networking opportunities, and finding people who are currently active in their field, as well as who are passionate about the next generation, is an excellent opportunity to do this.
