We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gage Aurora a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Gage , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I got my work ethic from my parents, who instilled in me the belief that nothing in life comes easy. They always emphasized the importance of hard work and perseverance. Growing up, I watched them dedicate themselves to their jobs and tackle challenges head-on. They taught me that success is a result of consistent effort and determination. This mindset not only drives me to pursue my goals with diligence but also helps me appreciate the value of every achievement. Their example has been a constant reminder that hard work lays the foundation for a fulfilling life.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’d like to share a bit about my journey and what I do. Growing up in a small home in South Florida as the overlooked middle child, I learned to be self-sufficient and carve my own path. Making others laugh became my way of feeling seen and connected. Today, I work as a superintendent for construction projects, and I’m proud to be one of the youngest professionals in my field. In addition to my work, I perform at open mics six nights a week, balancing that passion with my studies at FIU.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I believe the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been resilience, a willingness to embrace new challenges, and a strong belief in my potential. My advice for those just starting out is to learn from failures and use them as stepping stones for growth. Don’t shy away from challenges; they’re opportunities for development. Remember, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The biggest challenge I’m currently facing is dealing with how others perceive me during my performances. It can be daunting to think about their judgments, which sometimes affects my confidence on stage. To overcome this, I’m focusing on building my self-assurance by reminding myself of my unique voice and the joy I find in performing. I also seek feedback from trusted peers to gain perspective and improve. Ultimately, I’m learning to prioritize my own enjoyment and growth over external opinions, which helps me perform with more authenticity and passion.
