Meet Gail Perry-mason

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gail Perry-mason a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Gail , we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?

I’m in the investment industry and the best return in life is when we invest in others on purpose. Making more deposits than withdrawals – never in the negative – Deposit Hope, Love and Joy into others daily creates the best interest rate.

Someone was generous to me and made deposits and that’s why I must return that sacrifice. I was left in a hospital at birth and became a ward of the State
(Foster Care) and was labeled special needs and hard to place. I was placed in so many homes the first 4 years of my life and no one wanted me because I couldn’t walk or talk. One day a 55 year old woman and her 87 year old mom took me into their home and they called a black doctor over to examine me because I wouldn’t stop crying. The doctor prescribed love. These powerful black women gave me love and talked to me daily. I began to walk and talk and now I run marathons and never shut up!
Going from Foster Care to Caring for others is my Divine Assignment in life. We are all born to give from our hearts and it makes all of the difference. I have 3 children related by blood and few thousand children related by love. My heart and doors are open daily to serve because of the women who gave me love. Love keeps giving. I host foster care youth in my home for events, and most of all I started Money Matters For Youth (www.moneymattersforyouth.com) to teach our youth about investing; but they must learn the value to themselves, each other and then the value of the dollar. We have touched over 7,000 youth. We can’t love anything that can’t love you back. People can love you back.
I haven’t taken a vacation in 28 years and use my vacation time to gather over 300 youth and teach them about economic empowerment and how to empower each other with love. L.O.V.E. Let Obstacles Vanish Effortlessly. Also, I have taken our youth to South Arica, Berkshire Shareholders meeting etc. Our youth learn one thing in our mission – You NEVER Met a Poor Giver! I have so many stories on giving, and breaking others down with love is more powerful than hate. Giving others our time and attention is priceless. My giving goes beyond my monthly budget because so many people are in need; but God always provides. I make sure we invest in seniors, families in need and our youth. I learned from the best women, Frankie Mae Walker and Emma Walker on how to give. They never had an opportunity to go to college and they were not wealthy, but they had love. They were “rich” in love. They gave it to me and I must pass on the legacy of love in their memory.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My brand is investing in others. I’m excited to help my clients invest daily. My career as a Senior Director of Investments for over 30 years and working with so many families to reach their goals and leave generational wealth as a legacy is a blessing.

I’m so excited about the next generation and how they are becoming bridge builders and teaching others how to have a seat at the table.

I’m also excited to take our youth to New York. Next month, they will have their photo in Time Square.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Set aside your title and serve! It’s not about your title; we are all Servant Leaders.

Know the Power of Pivoting in Life – Give Yourself Grace.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me is to show me that we are all related by love.
