Meet Garrett Alden

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Garrett Alden. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Garrett below.

Garrett, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

I try to stay inspired always. I am lucky to say that this year so far has been incredible for me in terms of creativity. I have never felt more inspired in my life and I feel like I am in a constant flow of making things and getting all of my ideas out. It has been a blast and I feel blessed to be making new things every day that I love. I feel like I am purely just a vessel for the songs and usually things will just naturally flow if I open myself up to them. I write and record every single day. In my opinion, the discipline of just showing up for the art day in and day out is truly what allows me to continue to exponentially grow my skills and my craft. So to keep my creativity alive I work hard at practicing the discipline of writing and recording daily regardless of anything else going on in my life.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Short Bio: “Garrett Alden is a 23-year-old Singer, Songwriter, and Producer. Originally from a small town in Hawaii, he recently graduated this past winter from Belmont University with a Degree in Music Business. Since graduating, he has stayed here and continued to live in Nashville pursuing a music career. Back in High School, while he was still living in Hawaii, Garrett was chosen as a top 10 artist with Haku Collective. Which is an artist development and talent production agency founded by multi-Grammy Nominee and island music legend Kimie Miner. Some of his biggest musical inspirations are John Mayer, Jack Johnson, Zach Bryan, Norah Jones, and Chris Stapleton. The commitment to representing Hawaii and honoring the countless musical mentors who have helped him along the way are the main driving forces for Garrett’s burning desire to pursue a career as an artist in the music industry. Both in Nashville and beyond.”

As far as anything new, yes I actually have a brand new song dropping this Friday 6/6. It will be my third official release and I believe that it is the best work I have put out so far. This new one is called “I Don’t Mind” and it is kind of a Country/Pop summer sing-along type of vibe. I would say it is very different than the two other singles I have dropped this year. I am still introducing my listeners to my sound and I love to constantly switch things up with different vibes. I can’t wait to share “I Don’t Mind” on June 6th and I plan to continue releasing a new song every three weeks for the rest of 2025. I believe that consistency is the key and it is the way that I will be able to build a true audience of listeners. I pray that these songs find the right ears and we continue to build with each new release and never let up.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I mean I am certainly still in the beginning of my journey so I am learning every single day and discovering my sound more and more with each drop. I just started my music career officially less than two months ago as of April 11th with my first single “You Get Me High”. However, I have been writing and recording for almost a 10 years now. I started when I was 14 years old just starting High School. I began playing guitar even earlier than that, at 9 years old. I feel like all of those early years have prepared me for now. I have dedicated my life to music and there is nothing more I would rather be doing.

With that being said, I don’t have a ton of advice for anyone starting out a music career as I am just beginning my own myself. I do believe that three qualities that have been the most impactful in my own personal journey that have helped me get to this point are work ethic, a strong sense of discipline, and being genuine/authentic. One of my major goals for my career is I always want to remain authentic and true to myself regardless of anything. I need to be creating from a place that is genuine, feeling is the most important thing to me in music in determining if a song is a success to me or not. I just want to be different and continue to build out my own unique sound.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Absolutely. I love the idea of collaboration in music and it is beautiful how moments can be shared between people when making songs that are so different than any other sort of collaborating you may encounter in your life. The honesty and vulnerability it takes to make music is so potent and sharing that with another individual or a room of people all working together towards one collective vision is one of the coolest things in the world to me. This year, I have been working with people more than ever. I believe it is one of the important things that has continued to feed into my growth as an artist; opening my creativity up and learning from others writing/production process.

If someone messes with my sound and I mess with theirs I am pretty much down to collab with anyone. As long as they take music seriously and approach it from a raw; love and respect for the craft type perspective. I strongly believe that if you have the ability to create music it is so important to honor the gift and show up for yourself. What better way than to do that with others who share that same passion.

Specifically, I would love to link with someone such as a female singer/artist that is also up and coming. I have a few songs on my hard drive that I think would be so killer with some kind of either female harmonies or literally entire vocal parts almost as like a duet kind of thing. One certain song I have recorded needs a female singer to lay down the hook so bad lol. Another type of person I would love to work with is a pedal steel player, I know Nashville has some of the best if not the best in the world at that. Lastly, if anyone out there is reading this that is a mastering engineer I would love to pick their brain and see how they work. I love the production side of music as well, not just the writing and recording process. I mix and master all of my own releases myself, all in-house. Every production is handmade and curated the way I envision it. It would be amazing to work side by side with a mastering engineer because I am less familiar with that side of production. I started to learn how to mix back when I was like 16 or so, mastering is something fairly new to me. I master purely out of necessity so that I can put my songs out. To get to learn from someone who focuses only on mastering or just see their perspective on one of my mixes would be invaluable.
