We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gavin (gavthadon) Villanueva a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Gavin (gavthadon), so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose by doing what I love. I’ve always loved music and had a passion for it. I had always wanted to make music and I finally did a few years ago, I made some songs. I realized I had potential when people started liking the music I was making. It gave me a sense of purpose when I felt like I didn’t have one at the time. I had no idea what I wanted to do, it felt like I wasn’t good enough at anything or smart enough. Music was my escape from the world and also became my purpose in the world. If there’s something you love doing, then DO IT! It doesn’t hurt to atleasr try and maybe you’ll find your purpose you’ve been searching for!
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Gavin but people may know me as gavthadon which is my stage name, I am a 17 year old artist from San Antonio Texas and I make music. I recently released my album, “My Final Letter To You.” Now out on all platforms, along with a music video on YouTube for my single “Questions I’ll Never Know The Answer To.”! I also have some shows coming up in the city and one in Austin TX in April. I’ve been making music seriously for about 2 years, but I have been writing lyrics and singing since I was about 11 years old. Music is my passion and everything I’ve wanted to do since I was a little kid. Check out my music! “gavthadon” on all music platforms!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The biggest thing is to just be confident in your work and ability. Try not to care what other people think. Do it because YOU love it don’t do it for anyone else but you. I think really tapping into your emotions and experiences can help alot in the song writing process. I often just speak my mind in my songs. It’s important to also have knowledge of music as far as the industry and sounds.

I’m always looking to collaborate! I’m willing to work with all kinds of artists. Music producers, song writers, rappers, singers, anyone. I also want to collaborate with videographers for music videos, painters for cover designs, photographers, really just artists of any kind I love art so much!
