We recently connected with Gavin Raetz and have shared our conversation below.
Gavin, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I have found that the best way to keep my creativity alive is by finding inspiration from a lot of different places. I love looking at the work of other photographers as it always gives me new ideas and pushes me to try different things. Honestly, just getting out of the house with my camera is huge for me. Even if I don’t have a plan, I always seem to find something cool to shoot. A lot of my favorite photos have come from just being in the right place at the right time, and I think those unplanned moments are what keep me excited about what I do!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
As the founder and photographer behind Gavin Raetz Photography, I specialize in capturing authentic, meaningful moments for individuals and couples. Whether it’s engagement shoots, portraits, or lifestyle photography, my goal is to create images that tell a story and preserve memories people can cherish forever. What excites me most about my work is the opportunity to connect with people and turn fleeting moments into timeless art. I love finding those candid, unplanned moments that bring a photo to life.
Right now, I’m focused on growing my reach and continuing to refine my craft. I’ve had the privilege of photographing over five engagements and many amazing clients, and I’m always looking for new opportunities to collaborate. For anyone looking for photography that’s personal and heartfelt, I’d love to connect and help bring your vision to life!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I’d say the three qualities that had the biggest impact on my journey were adaptability, a strong work ethic, and the ability to connect with people. Photography is so dynamic so being adaptable has been key to staying creative and delivering great results.
For anyone starting out, I’d recommend practicing flexibility by stepping out of your comfort zone! By trying new techniques or shoot in challenging conditions, it really helps you get new views and can make shooting in better light a breeze!

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m always open to collaborating with others who are passionate about creating something meaningful. Whether you’re a fellow photographer, a brand looking for visual storytelling, or someone in the wedding or event industry, I’d love to connect and explore how we can work together. I’m especially interested in partnerships that involve capturing genuine moments, showcasing unique perspectives, or collaborating on creative projects that inspire others.
