Meet Gbale Allen

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Gbale Allen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Gbale below.

Gbale, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

Being the only one in the room who looks like me has often been challenging, but it’s also been one of my greatest sources of strength. Early on, I learned to embrace my unique background and appearance as an asset rather than a limitation. Growing up as a military child, living in different countries, and experiencing life as both a Liberian and a Southern American gave me a rich understanding of how to bridge diverse perspectives and communicate across cultural divides. That experience taught me to walk into spaces with confidence, knowing that I bring a valuable, multifaceted perspective.

In those moments when I am the only one, I remind myself of the resilience that comes from my background and community. I know I am part of something larger than myself, representing not only my family but also those who come from similar backgrounds and may not always feel seen. That sense of purpose fuels me to speak up, share my thoughts, and bring my full self to the table.

I also learned to build allies and cultivate relationships that transcend appearances. When I listen deeply to others, they often do the same for me. With time, I’ve found that authenticity has the power to turn potential isolation into meaningful connection. And in settings where I felt alone, I have been able to encourage others to see the strength in diversity and help open doors for others who may find themselves in similar situations.

Success in those moments has been about resilience and authenticity, but also a constant learning process. Each time I’ve walked out of a room where I was “the only one,” I walked away with a renewed sense of strength, clarity, and purpose, knowing that my presence matters and that every contribution I make paves the way for others to follow.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m Gbale Allen, the heart behind Gbalewood Creative House, a space where creativity, community, and style come together. Through Gbalewood Creative House, I offer style consultation, creative direction, and curated experiences that bring people closer to self-expression and a sense of belonging. Our boutique, Gbalewood Boutique, is a unique part of what we do, featuring curated pieces that empower clients to find their own style while supporting local and independent creators.

One of the most exciting aspects of our work is the Pretty Little Housewife Book Club. This community is all about women coming together to share in the joys of reading, personal growth, and deep connection. We gather weekly at different local venues and virtually to discuss powerful books and engage in meaningful conversation. The Book Club has become a special space for laughter, learning, and sisterhood, and it’s been inspiring to see it grow.

What makes Gbalewood Creative House so special is its commitment to creating spaces where everyone feels celebrated and seen. From pop-up events and style consultations to the supportive community we’re building, we strive to make each experience meaningful and memorable. Looking ahead, we’re excited to continue expanding our offerings and connecting more people with the joy and beauty of authentic self-expression.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, I’d say three qualities have been most impactful in my journey: resilience, adaptability, and a deep commitment to authenticity.

Resilience has been essential, especially in a field where creativity often requires us to push through uncertainty and even rejection. Building resilience is about not letting setbacks define you. I encourage anyone early in their journey to embrace challenges as part of the growth process and to remember that each challenge has something to teach. Celebrate the small wins, as they’re often the fuel that keeps you moving forward.

Adaptability has been equally important, as every project and client is unique. Whether I’m styling a client, creating a new community experience, or working on a personal project, flexibility allows me to meet the moment and pivot when needed. For those beginning their journey, my advice is to seek varied experiences and take on new challenges that stretch you, even if they’re outside your comfort zone. The more you do, the more comfortable you’ll be adapting to whatever comes your way.

Finally, authenticity has been my guiding star. In an industry that can sometimes focus on trends, I’ve learned the value of staying true to myself and my vision. Authenticity resonates with others because people are naturally drawn to what feels real. For those starting out, I would say: be brave enough to embrace what makes you unique and put that into everything you create. It’s what will set you apart and draw the right people to you.

Cultivating these qualities has been key to my journey, and I believe they form a strong foundation for success in any creative or entrepreneurial path.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Yes, I’m always open to partnering with creative, passionate individuals or brands who believe in building community and celebrating self-expression. I’d love to collaborate with those who bring unique perspectives—whether they’re in art, fashion, wellness, or events—and are excited about creating meaningful experiences together. If you’re interested in connecting, please reach out through my website or social media. I’d be thrilled to explore ways we can bring something special to life!
