Meet Geechie Poet

We were lucky to catch up with Geechie Poet recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Geechie with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

When you love what you do and have a true passion for it, you don’t view it as work. Thats how my journey has played out over time. From the time I started to write as a teenager, I felt like the rhyme couldn’t be walked away from until it was completed. However if we fast forward to present day its a little different. Its ok to put your best effort into your work and if thats all you can come up with at that time its fine to give it a break and come back.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My mission from the beginning is to be able to express my feelings and get he entire world to feel my lyrical story. When growing up, people would always ask me what I’d like to be when I grew up? My reply would be that I want to be a poet. Individuals would always ask, “What do you want to become if that doesn’t work out for you?”. That made me give myself no backup plan. To many people, that sounds foolish, but it’s not. An old phrase is seeing believing, and I live by that. I’m not going to tell you that everything has gone as planned or I wouldn’t be being honest. It’s so easy to look successful on social media today. Nobody talks about the long days and nights or the tears that come with a loss or few. I’m 31 with three published books and did that by age 27. As a poet, I love touching the microphone on ripping the stage. These past few years, I’ve really gone insane with traveling across the United States. Lately, I’ve been doing behind the scenes work. Back in December, I got certified in music, film, and entertainment. Now I want to get involved with acting and more script writing.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

taking the leap of faith will get you in places you’ve never thought about or fully considered either. we often doubt ourselves and talk ourselves out of good ideas and sometimes even dreams. However thats what resources are for, whatever you’re into do the research. The more events you attend in your region, the more like-minded people you’ll meet.

Consistency is another man key to the equation of success. Sometimes you may feel like you’re not making much progress continue to show up with yourself. Every move won’t seem to level up to success but guess what, a win is a win. It doesn’t matter if it’s a big win or a small win, you accomplished something and deserve to celebrate yourself.

Networking is like power in your house or apartment. Once you get into the routine of networking it becomes natural. the meta vese is good and should be used for networking as well. On the flip side you will gain a whole different type of audience and people will be able to put a name with the face.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I’m looking to do collaborations with other artist. Since I’ve became certified in music, film, and entertainment I want to get more involved in acting and scriptwriting. I’d like to get involved in short films or mini tv series. If anyone knows of any good acting schools available in the Charleston area, reach out to me on social media to fill me in. I’m also looking for a mentor as well that may be interested in teaching me some diffent artistic approaches and help keep my skills polished as well.
