Meet Gemma

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Gemma. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Gemma below.

Gemma , so great to have you with us today. There are so many topics we want to ask you about, but perhaps the one we can start with is burnout. How have you overcome or avoided burnout?

For me, overcoming burnout started with understanding that I can’t pour into others if I’m running on empty. As a trainer and business owner, there’s always another session, another program to write, another video to film and its easy to stay in go-mode until your body finally forces you to slow down.

My faith has been a huge part of helping me avoid burnout. Letting God be present in my daily life, slowing down long enough to pray each morning, and listening to daily scriptures while driving to my clients helps recenter me and remind me I don’t have to carry everything on my own.

Yoga has helped me move with intention instead of urgency, and adding meditation in my routine has helped me release tension and refocus on my weekly goals.

On the practical side, I do small things that make my busy life easier: prepping the night before, planning my week, getting ahead on my clients’ workouts and sessions, and keeping my own workouts and meal prep as non-negotiable routines. These might seem simple, but they create a rhythm that supports me instead of draining me.

Burnout still happens here and there, but making these small changes and staying connected and grounded with my goals and my routine has made a HUGE difference. It allows me to show up for my clients and myself with more clarity, strength, and grace.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

As a personal trainer and founder of Workouts With Gem LLC, I focus on helping women build healthy, sustainable habits and reach their fitness goals from the comfort of their home – through in-home sessions or virtually via Zoom.

What I love about my work is seeing my clients’ growth in confidence and strength – not just physically, but in their mindset and consistency with their goals.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to share that in 2026 I’ll be pursuing a Senior Fitness Specialist certification, so I can help more seniors stay active and independent in their homes. Being able to empower people of all ages to move safely and feel strong is what makes my work truly special.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three qualities that have had the biggest impact on my journey would be:

1. Resilience: The ability to keep going and trust that the right opportunities will come in time. Patience and resilience make all the difference.

2. Willingness to grow: Even after starting my business, I’ve realized that learning never stops. Continuously improving, reading, and expanding my skills is key to become better at what I do.

3. Embracing challenges: Understanding that obstacles are part of this wild journey and learning to face them head on has strengthened both my business and mindset.

My advice to others is stay resilient, stay curious, and don’t shy away from challenges. Growth comes through persistence, learning, and stepping outside your comfort zone.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

My ideal client is someone who is willing to put their trust in me and commit to their growth. Whether they’ve never lifted a weight, stepped foot in a gym, or are navigating the challenge of balancing family and life, I’m here to help change their mindset, perspective, and daily habits.

I don’t focus on age, size, or experience – whether a senior, someone new to fitness, or carrying extra weight, it doesn’t matter. What matters is their willingness to show up, stay consistent, and believe that they can improve their health and confidence. I especially love working with women at home, new moms, or anyone ready to prioritize themselves and build sustainable habits that fit their life.
