We were lucky to catch up with Genavese Harris recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Genavese with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I get my work ethic from parents.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
“I’m currently a Director Event Marketing at a major local attraction here in Mobile, Alabama, where I oversee event planning, logistics, and promotional strategy for a wide range of events. In this role, I’ve gained extensive experience coordinating with vendors, managing large crowds, and creating impactful, memorable experiences for our guests.
Alongside my current position, I’m also in the process of launching my own event-planning business, Big Tyme Events. The purpose of Big Tyme Events is to provide small corporations and individuals with the opportunity to bring their dreams to life. I want to create a space where people can see their ideas become reality, no matter the size or type of event. Through this business, my goal is to offer professional, creative, and accessible event-planning services that support clients from start to finish.
Overall, both roles allow me to pursue my passion for creating meaningful, well-executed events while continuing to grow within the Mobile community.”

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three areas that have greatly impacted my life are joining Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., becoming involved in various organizations that strengthened my leadership and public-speaking skills, and having parents who placed me in activities that helped bring me out of my shell.
“My advice for anyone coming up is this: don’t be afraid to take risks. If something doesn’t work out the first time, that doesn’t mean you won’t succeed the next. There are many different paths you can take to reach your dream—so keep going, keep trying, and don’t lose sight of what you want.”

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
There have been many people who have influenced me and helped me overcome different challenges, but the one person who stands out the most is my brother. He’s always there for me, and right now he’s working on launching his own business. Because of that, I often go to him for guidance and to learn more about business myself.
