Meet Genevieve Frederick

We were lucky to catch up with Genevieve Frederick recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Genevieve with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

Father and Husband

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Upon retiring early (49) I saw a need that that few others noticed – the pets of people experiencing homelessness going hungry and without veterinary care. In 2008, I founded Feeding Pets of the Homeless, the first national nonprofit of its kind, which has since provided millions of meals and lifesaving care to tens of thousands of pets.

Since 2008, the nonprofit has provided over 2.7 million pounds of pet food to local food banks, homeless and domestic shelters. We have provided free treatment to over 32,000 pets at over 2,000 veterinary hospitals across the country.

Without government funding we receive we receive our funding from individuals, companies, private foundations and bequests.

Announcing the inaugural launch of its Corporate Community PAWtnership. This new initiative establishes a strategic alignment of companies and community organizations committed to advancing human and veterinary services by assisting the closest companions of those experiencing homelessness—their pets.

The Corporate Community PAWtnership offers three levels of sponsorship engagement—local, regional, and national—each featuring tiered benefits designed to meet the unique strategic goals of participating organizations. Through these partnerships, businesses and community groups can demonstrate corporate social responsibility while supporting a compassionate mission that strengthens the bond between people and their pets.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. Never stop learning
2. Have a vision with optimism
3. Compassion for the less fortunate

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

We are always seeking veterinary hospitals that will give us a discount for care of pets that belong to the homeless. We pay them at time of service.
We are looking for businesses that want to show social responsibility in their community by becoming a Donation Site.
We want to know of other nonprofits that distribute human food and pet food to low income and homeless so our clients know where to go.
We seek shelters, homeless and domestic violent, that need pet crates so humans and pets can have shelter.
We want social workers, police, firefighters, other animal welfare nonprofits, and volunteers to know who we are and how we work to provide for pets of people experiencing homelessness
