Meet Genotheartist Freeman

We were lucky to catch up with Genotheartist Freeman recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Genotheartist with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

Growing. Up as an only child watching my parents work hard for the way we lived made me want to live a similar life. They had the best of everything and never had to worry about a thing and I wanted that. So from the time I could work I wanted to so I could learn what responsibility looked like and could I really take care of my myself if I had to. So with all that I applied to my work ethic in how I move and how I treat people. I’m a fair and generous person that would never ask you to do something that I wouldn’t do. I research and I plan for whatever job is next for me so I can complete to the highest level that I can. I show up everyday as a better version of myself.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m a professional Makeup Artist for Television and Film Industry and it excites me every day I get to wake up doing what I love. I wake up everyday loving the career path I chose and what I do. I change lives of every person that has sat in my chair , as well as they have changed my life. I’ve been a Makeup Artist for 23 years and working in film and television for 12 years. Best decision of my entire life.. in 2021 I created my Luxury Makeup Brush line “Whisked by Geno” and they have changed lives with every stroke. I wanted to create something for me to share to the world and create a brush like no other. The durability of these brushes are top notch and to feel them is out of this world. You can find them at www.whiskedbygeno.com along with some other goodies.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think believing in yourself,
My work ethic to always be a better version of myself daily.
And lastly to still practice my skills and give my self skill drills to stay current and keeping the knowledge of the art form current.
The best advice I could give someone is to never stop practicing and never give up even if it feels like things are going against you because I can tell you now it’s not an easy road.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

I can’t choose just one person who has helped me overcome challenges.
Firstly my mom has been by my side through thick and then and never judged me for the choices Ive made.
My MAC Mother Medina Raff gave me my first chance hiring me at MAC in south Florida. She saw something in me before I saw it. I was a Hairstylist that wanted to do something different. And lastly my mentor Merc Arceneaux took my hand and guided me in this world we work in of Television and Film. She showed me the do’s and dont’s and the right way to the things that I needed to make my name a staple in this industry. I’ll never forget that and she still continues to be that person.
