Genrey, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Imposter syndrome is a journey I feel a lot of us go through. We tend to be our own worse critic, and building that trust within ourselves is no easy task. But even now, I can’t say I have completely overcome it, but what I can say is that I found that acknowledging my achievements and reminding myself of my skills and talents helped counter those negative thoughts. Building a supportive network of friends, family, and fellow artists who believed in me also played a crucial role. I learned to embrace the learning process and view mistakes as opportunities for growth rather than evidence of my shortcomings. And it’s through self-reflection, perseverance, and surrounding myself with positivity, I’ve been able to gain confidence in my abilities as an artist and trust within myself.

I’d love to share more about my journey and what I’m focused on professionally.

I’m Genrey, a singer-songwriter on a mission to create music that resonates with listeners, because my goal is to make you feel something. My journey in music began at a young age, surrounded by music my whole life, from my parents, both musicians themselves. As I grew older, I found solace and self-expression in songwriting, channeling my emotions and experiences into heartfelt lyrics and melodies.

What excites me most about my artistic career is the ability to connect with people on a profound level through music. Music has a unique power to evoke emotions, spark memories, and unite people from all walks of life. Being able to share my own stories and experiences through my music, and knowing that it may resonate with someone else going through similar situations, is incredibly rewarding.

I’m particularly proud of my recent EP, “Romanticizing,” which delves into the complexities of love and relationships. Each song on the EP offers a different perspective, exploring the highs and lows of romantic experiences with honesty and vulnerability. From unrequited longing to raw passion and confusion, it invites listeners to reflect on their own experiences and emotions.

In terms of what’s new, I have so many releases ready to come out and I am so excited about it. It’s been a labor of love, and I can’t wait to share it with the world, but for now my main focus is my EP. But I am exploring different avenues for creative expression. Whether it’s through collaborations with other artists, live performances, or engaging with my audience on social media, I’m always striving to grow and evolve as an artist.

Overall, my goal is to continue creating music that resonates with people on a deep level and to foster connections through my art. I’m grateful for the support and excited to see where this journey takes me next. This is only the beginning!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that have been most impactful are authenticity, resilience, and self-belief.

Authenticity: Being true to myself and my artistic vision has been crucial in navigating my journey. Authenticity allows me to connect with my audience on a deeper level and create music that feels genuine and heartfelt. My advice for those early in their journey is to embrace their unique voice and perspective. Don’t try to emulate others or conform to expectations; instead, lean into what makes you distinct and use it as your strength.

Resilience: The music industry can be challenging, with setbacks and rejection being inevitable. Developing resilience has allowed me to bounce back from disappointments and keep pushing forward despite obstacles. My advice is to cultivate resilience by reframing failures as opportunities for growth, staying focused on long-term goals, and maintaining a positive mindset even in the face of adversity.

Self-belief: Believing in myself and my abilities has been essential in overcoming self-doubt and pursuing my dreams with confidence. Building self-belief takes time and practice, but it’s essential for staying motivated and persevering through challenges. My advice is to celebrate your achievements, no matter how small, and surround yourself with supportive people who believe in your potential. Additionally, challenge negative self-talk and cultivate a mindset of self-compassion and self-confidence.

Throughout my journey as a singer-songwriter, my parents have been the most influential in helping me overcome challenges and develop essential skills. Since childhood, they have been my biggest supporters, nurturing my love for music and encouraging me to pursue my passion wholeheartedly. Their unwavering belief in me has instilled confidence and resilience, guiding me through the ups and downs of the music industry.

I’ve also been fortunate to have the support of friends who have stood by me through thick and thin. Their encouragement and belief in my talent have been a constant source of inspiration, pushing me to strive for better and never give up on my dreams. Their diverse perspectives and unwavering loyalty have enriched my journey as a singer-songwriter, making the highs more celebratory and the lows more manageable.
