Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to George Moss. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi George, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I found my purpose in Christ (Yahshua) Jesus. I am a work in progress. I am working to love God with all my heart and to love people like He does.
Matthew 22:36-40
36 “Teacher,” he asked, “which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the greatest and the most important commandment. 39 The second most important commandment is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ 40 The whole Law of Moses and the teachings of the prophets depend on these two commandments.”
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
In February 2020, my family and I began planning an event to encourage people of all ages to create their own work and to give creators an affordable platform to sell their work. I began to share our vision with other creatives and the creative community believed in us. With a leap of faith, friends who are like family who volunteered and with the help of the creative community, our event, Beyond Comicon™ was launched on Saturday, February 19, 2022.
Beyond Comicon™ is family-friendly convention and a movement to inspire individuals to become future creators. It’s a family focused event where creators and independent designers make connections, showcase their comics, fashion designs, video games, and BEYOND. At Beyond Comicon™, creators and designers exhibit their brands to sell their work and to encourage future creators.
Our first year we had over 700 people in attendance. The attendees were asking for another event and the creators said we were very generous, kind, and that they wanted to be a part of it next year. After the first event, we were approached by a kind Commissioner of North Miami Beach, Commissioner Michael Joseph, Esq. He told us that he loved what we are doing in the community and he wanted to sponsor our show for the next year. Last year, he was our main sponsor and will be sponsoring this year, on Saturday, February 17, 2024.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
There are many that are helping me in my journey. Here are three of them.
1) Have a good consistent work ethic – Work hard to strengthen your skills (art, fashion, writing, etc.) Find others who have a similar work ethic/vision (it does not have to be the same industry) to work along side with.
2) Seek your purpose and pursue it – Pray to God, ask for His guidance, Study the scriptures, write down your ideas and goals, and find trustworthy friends to keep you accountable to complete your goals.
3) Try to be kind to everyone – Show Appreciation and love to parents, teachers, friends, enemies, etc.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My parents, my brother, my best friends, and my mentors have been the most helpful to overcome challenges in my life.
They have been with me in my creative journey to encourage me to keep going, to believe the promises of the scriptures, and have been my friends to pick me up when I have made mistakes. They are my inner circle who have my back when no one does. I am very grateful to have them.
