Meet George Solonos

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to George Solonos. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi George, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
In short, I did not. The “imposter” is always there yelling at the top of his lungs “you can’t do it” or, “you suck” or, “sure you’ve done it in the past but can you do it now?” It’s always up to you to listen to that voice, challenge it or simply choose to hear it as noise in the background.
As anyone who’s ever been to a gym knows, setting goals and achieving them is 1% based on will and 99% on being consistent. That voice is always going to be there so might as well be friends with it.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My role in music has always been a versatile one. I have always enjoyed exploring and keeping things interesting so have been variating between composing and producing music, to live shows, studio work and film. At the end of the day all these elements feed off each other and overall, create a better understanding of music altogether.

This also applies when working with a variety of different music genres. In the words of Louis Armstrong: “There are only two kinds of music, the good, and the bad”.

Now, I am very excited to announce that a new personal album is being released, one single at a time, implementing this same philosophy. The song “In Your Shoes” has just been released on December 1st.

The best way to create something worthwhile is to make sure you’re enjoying every step of the process, otherwise how can someone enjoy something if you didn’t have a hell of a time with it in the first place!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Resilience. Life is a crazy ride full of ups and downs. And in the words of a great fighter: “It’s not about how hard you hit, it’s about how hard you get hit and keep going”.

2. Connection
Nobody ever did anything worthwhile all by themselves. And besides peer aid, connection with nature, the Universe, the higher self, God. or whatever anyone wants to call the bigger picture that we are all a part of, is what makes an artist true to their purpose which is simply to make this world slightly more beautiful than the way they found it.

3. Persistence.
This is the glue that keeps everything together.
With most goals, results and rewards come painfully slow, so loving the process is the only way to keep doing whatever it is that you’re doing.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
After finishing “Human” the personal album that I have been working on for the past year and a half, I realised that the real hard work starts once the music is done. Artists these days have nothing to do with what a lot of people might think, when record labels and publishing companies would prepare everything for them. It is now mostly up to the artist to learn how to step in all the different positions and roles in order to practically do everything. From being the promoter to being the manager, distributor etc. And unfortunately all these roles are very clashing with the role of the artist. It’s almost like switching personalities.
On the other hand, I find that this challenge is helping me expand my overall knowledge and explore capabilities I would otherwise not. Again, loving the process is key with all these things.
