We caught up with the brilliant and insightful George Wood a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
George, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
After years of surviving trauma and abusive situations, once I went through the healing process and got to the other side part of what Jesus showed me was, I can do anything! Part of what got me through those situations was recognizing my value, worth and strengths.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Through my coaching, consulting, and speaking engagements, I aim to deliver a powerful message of freedom, and hope to those who feel lost and broken, enabling them to discover and live out the inner peace they were meant to have.
Allow me to be your guide on this transformative life journey as we bring hope to the world together.
My mission is to share this journey of growth and freedom with the world, guiding others towards the fulfillment and freedom they truly deserve.
I am also the founder and Director of the Sober Truth Project a Non-profit dedicated to changing the way that world looks at recovery from addiction, mental health, suicide prevention and trauma. Utilizing an online platform to educate, equip and empower leaders to better walk alongside those struggling and to provide hope for those tha feel lost.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Perserverance, curiosity and determination.
You have to believe whole heartedly in what you are doing and not be willing to give up no matter the cost. Recognize that this life we have been given is meant to change the world and we all have a role to play in how that happens. What is yours?
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
M.Scott Pecks the Road less Traveled is the book that I first stumbled across that woke me up to a new reality. The opening line in the book is something like, “life is pain, the sooner we recognize that the sooner we can get on with living”. That line helped me see that often what we were trying to accomplish is comfort and that is not based in reality, which then makes you even more uncomfortable knowing youwill never reach some utopian life where everything is easy.
