Meet Georgette Medina

We recently connected with Georgette Medina and have shared our conversation below.

Georgette , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

Discomfort is the best teacher definitely. Years ago I used to panic when things didn’t go as planed or when I worked on something really hard and didn’t get the outcome that I expected. It was very disappointing for me and I kept questioning myself day by day if it was really worth it, all the sacrifice I put on a goal just to end up whit the feeling that somehow I could have done it better. I cried my heart out a couple of times, until I noticed that not knowing what to do was a ticket to learn a new way to do it. So there I was, confronting my inner voice that kept telling me that I was not good enough to try again, I desperately needed to get out of my confort zone and try new ways to figure it out, find new ways to ride uncertainty and hold on tight until I overcome the challenges. That’s why I took my time to work hard on my confidence so I could adapt when things didn’t go my way and move froward despite all of that that was happening, I learned to accept that there are things that I can’t control and to be cool with it. Acceptance, self compassion, kindness and patience are the things that put me out of the spiral I was in. It’s not just about what you’re going through, it’s about how you go through it.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I have always been in love with art, mainly music, so I started singing when I was a teenager and eventually this passion evolve to have a degree in contemporary music performance. At that time in my life is where I learned the most about it, I knew how to feel music in my body and soul, but there is where I began to understand it, I learned how to read it, analyze it, create it, and for me, it was the coolest thing ever.
Most of my life I was fully involved with being the singer of local bands in Mexico City and at the same time I was pursuing my own personal project, searching which style suits me the most. I have tried some pop, soul and r&b, but then I got involved with rapping, and I felt a sparkle in my heart, there it was, I wanted a mix of all of that. Then I took my own name, removed the vowels and got GRGTT, which is the other part of me, it’s the name I use to release my music.
It’s amazing to put a feeling on a melody, on a rap, it makes me feel powerful and connected with my mission thats is to share my experiences.
Since I want to be more involved with the other side of making music, right now I’m studying musical production, before I was more on the side of singing or writing lyrics and melodies, nowadays I want to expand my knowledge to the other side of it. I’m taking a break from releasing music, but soon I’ll be back with more of my creations.

Right now in my life I’m grateful to have a lot of ways to communicate my feelings through art, it can be a choreography, a painting, writing a song or a poem, producing some beats, playing the guitar, hula hooping to my favorite jams, or even get more playful and create some epoxy resin designs, art is a game changer in my life, and I’m open to learn a lot more ways to communicate through it.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Nothing could be more truth than everything is constantly changing, so adapting to these changes has been crucial in any situation of my life, when I tried to resist to it, I suffered way more. Adapting is a hard subject but I finally made peace with it when I let go all the things I couldn’t control and started focusing on what I could do to move on.

Sometimes when I was feeling burned out I used to think that I needed to work harder, little did I know my soul was begging for a rest, I learned to be wise about my pauses and stop blaming myself for needing a time out.

Listening to my inner voice was something difficult for me because I was trying so hard to fit in with the mainstream artists, but it was not my path, I ended feeling empty at the end of the shows until I started to be more aware of what I truly desire, then everything started to feel more nurturing.

As an advice I truly believe that having confidence in what you have to offer is key, if you are honest with the things that your heart longs for, challenges are going to be easier to overcome.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I am open to collaborate with producers and musicians, I can help with lyrics, melodies or beat ideas, I’m more than excited to get to know more people involved in the industry with the same values and vision as me.

You can all reach me out on my social media, I’m a pair of clicks away, let’s exchange ideas and see what we can create. I’ll be glad to collaborate.
