We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Geovanna & Alex a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Geovanna &, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
As a duo-owned business, one of the most important things we’ve learned is not to put pressure on ourselves to “force” creativity. Since we live in separate states, we’ve embraced the rhythm of working apart while still staying deeply connected. Our creativity comes alive when we share our love for fashion and self-expression through our upcycled ties and custom pin designs.
We find inspiration in the hunt—sourcing and thrifting unique pieces is like a treasure hunt that fuels our imagination. Each tie has a story, and transforming it into something bold and fresh keeps the process exciting. For us, creativity isn’t just about designing; it’s about keeping the joy, freedom, and passion at the heart of everything we do.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
We are proud to be a female-owned upcycling brand that’s all about giving fashion a bold second life. At Tiedy GAls co., we take classic ties and transform them into fresh, fashion-forward accessories that bring personality and creativity to any look. What makes us unique is that we don’t just sell ties—we create experiences.
Our Tie Bar interactives allow guests to pick a tie, zhuzh it up with custom-made accessories, and walk away with something truly one-of-a-kind. It’s fashion, fun, and creativity all rolled into an unforgettable moment for any event or special occasion.
Recently, we expanded with our Kick Bar—a sneaker styling experience where you bring your own kicks and we help you elevate them with unique laces and sneaker zhuzh. It’s been such a fun way to expand our love for upcycling into another accessory people use every day.
For our pop-ups, we’ve also introduced thrifted jackets reimagined with bold, playful sayings on the back—another way we’re breathing new life into fashion pieces while keeping sustainability at the center.
At the heart of it all, our mission is simple: we want people to see fashion differently, embrace individuality, and have fun while doing it.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Even though it’s hard to look back since we only officially launched this past May, there are already three qualities that stand out as the most impactful in our journey as co-founders: patience, passion, and imperfection.
Patience – As a duo running a business from two different states, patience has been key. We’ve learned to honor each other’s pace, give space for ideas to grow, and trust the process instead of rushing it.
Passion – Our shared love for fashion and creativity is what fuels everything we do. Even though we’re miles apart, that passion keeps us aligned with our vision and our “why.” It’s the spark that brings our upcycled ties and interactive experiences to life.
Imperfection – We both embrace imperfection, whether it’s in our creative process or in the journey of building a brand. Every thrifted tie and zhuzh accessory has its own quirks, just like we do, and that’s what makes it unique. The same is true for entrepreneurship—perfection isn’t the goal, progress is.
Advice for those early in their journey:
Give yourself grace—growth takes time. Let your passion guide you, because when you truly love what you’re building, it shows in every detail. And don’t wait for perfection before you start—some of the best ideas come out of messy first drafts, experiments, and trial runs. Lean into the imperfect moments; they often become the most authentic (and memorable) parts of your story.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes—always! Collaboration is at the heart of what we do. We’re especially excited to connect with others in the sustainability space and with female-owned businesses worldwide.
We’re always looking to collaborate with women who are pushing the boundaries of creativity and sustainability. Some dream collaborations for us include working with female designers who are bringing fresh perspectives to the fashion world, as well as female-owned suit shops where our ties can live in a whole new context.
We’d also love to partner with fashion shows, Kentucky Derby and Polo Events, and other spaces where bold style takes center stage. Beyond that, we’re excited by the idea of teaming up with woman-owned businesses across industries—from boutiques to lifestyle brands—that align with our commitment to upcycling, sustainability, and celebrating individuality.
Another part of our work that lights us up is hosting private Tie Bars—whether it’s for companies, rodeos, or any gathering where you want to create a truly memorable experience. Guests get to zhuzh their own tie or accessory, and it becomes a fun, creative moment they’ll never forget.
For us, collaboration is about more than just a product—it’s about creating experiences that inspire and bring people together. Whether it’s through our upcycled ties and zhuzh bar at an event, co-designing with another brand, or dreaming up something new, we love finding ways to reimagine fashion while uplifting women-owned businesses worldwide.
