Meet Geralyn Gaines

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Geralyn Gaines. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Geralyn below.

Geralyn, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Building my confidence and self-esteem starts with embracing who I already am. I recognize my strengths: connecting with others, leading with heart, advocating for change, and creating spaces where people feel seen and valued. Grounding myself in service, resilience, and integrity keeps me focused on what matters and not external validation. I protect my energy and always celebrate my wins. Surrounding myself with people who genuinely support me is a top priority. Confidence is about showing up fully, even when the outcome is uncertain. I honor the distance I’ve traveled and the dreams that are becoming a reality. Believing in myself is a daily commitment to the woman I’ve worked hard to become.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

As the founder of Keeping It G™, a speaking practice dedicated to empowering individuals and teams to embrace self-advocacy and transform their careers, I equip clients with the tools to speak up, recognize their worth, and achieve their full potential. My approach cultivates open communication, fuels innovation, and strengthens team dynamics to drive sustainable growth within organizations.

Specializing in career transitions, organizational change, and personal development, I’m passionate about helping professionals increase visibility, enhance their influence, and expand their networks.

Beyond my career, I’m a world traveler, foodie, and connector who treasures meaningful experiences and relationships. I’m an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and serve on the board of the Founders Junior Council at the Detroit Institute of Arts and previously on the Detroit Country Day Alumni Association Board. Whether exploring new cultures or engaging in deep conversations, I bring passion for life into everything I do.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Self-trust gave me the foundation to take risks, advocate for myself, and make decisions that aligned with my values. I recommmend folks start by getting clear on who they are and what matters most to them. Reflect regularly and trust your instincts.

2. Resilience allowed me to move through setbacks without losing sight of my goals or my sense of self-worth. It’s critical to understand that challenges and rejection are inevitable. Build practices, such as journaling, going to therapy, and/or seeking mentorship, that help you process hard moments and push through.

3. Relationship-building opened doors that my skills alone couldn’t. Investing in authentic connections gave me opportunities, support, and varied perspectives. Approach networking as relationship-building. Be curious about others, offer value without expectation, and stay consistent. The relationships you nurture today could shape your future in ways you can’t yet imagine.

How would you describe your ideal client?

My ideal clients are individuals and organizations who are committed to growth and open to new possibilities. Whether it’s someone looking to build their confidence and/or self-advocacy or a team working to create a stronger, more dynamic culture, I work best with those who lead with curiosity and are willing to invest in meaningful change. It’s less about having everything figured out and more about being willing to stay flexible and move forward with intention.
