Meet Gerika Odom

We recently connected with Gerika Odom and have shared our conversation below.

Gerika, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?

What Self-Care Means to Me

Self-care, for me, is necessary. It’s how I pause when life feels too heavy. I’ve learned to take myself on solo dates, try new things alone, and spend time in nature, not to escape, but to reconnect with who I am. That’s how I learn myself, and that’s how I keep going.

Journaling has been the most powerful part of my self-care. Writing down my thoughts, feelings, and ups and downs helps me release, reflect, and reset. It’s why I created my own journal to give other women a space to do the same.

Between journaling, solo dates, nature walks, reading, and taking care of my skin and hygiene, I’ve found ways to protect my peace and deal with life’s challenges without losing my glow. That’s what self-care has done for me. And that feels really good.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, the most impactful parts of my journey have been rooted in faith, resilience, and self-awareness.

Faith has always been my foundation. It kept me grounded when nothing around me made sense. There were days when I felt unsure, overwhelmed, or even lost, but trusting in God’s timing gave me peace and strength that I couldn’t find anywhere else. It reminded me that I’m never walking this path alone.

Then there’s resilience that inner strength that rises even when life gets heavy. Being a mom, an entrepreneur, and a woman healing in real time hasn’t been easy. But I learned how to bounce back, how to breathe through the hard days, and how to pivot without giving up. That resilience taught me how to keep showing up, even when I didn’t feel ready.

Through it all, self-awareness became my compass. Taking time to sit with myself, journal my thoughts, go on solo dates, and reflect helped me understand what I truly needed. I began to see what fed my soul, what drained me, and what I had to release. Learning myself on a deeper level gave me clarity and with clarity came confidence.

If you’re just starting your journey, my best advice is to lean into those same three things. Build your faith, even in small, quiet moments. Let your resilience speak when life tries to silence you. And make space for self-discovery get to know the real you, beyond the noise. Your glow will come from the inside out. Keep going. Keep growing. And don’t forget you were built to shine. ✨

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

The most impactful thing my parents ever did for me was introduce me to Christ. That foundation of faith has shaped everything about who I am today. They showed me what it meant to have a relationship with God, to lean on Him through everything, and to trust His plan for my life. That spiritual guidance became my anchor.

But they didn’t just give me faith, they also taught me independence. They showed me how to take care of myself, stay focused, and move through life with purpose and discipline. They led by example, teaching me to be a righteous and kind person, even when it wasn’t easy.

They also instilled the importance of forgiveness, how to let go, not for others, but for my own peace. That lesson alone has freed me in so many ways and allowed me to keep growing. Everything they poured into me has shaped the woman I am today. And for that, I’ll always be grateful.
