Meet German Barranca

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to German Barranca. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have German with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

As a kid I’ve always helped my parents when it came to work. I would work with my dad on weekends as a kid. He worked in the construction industry and I fell in love with the satisfaction of seeing a project come together as days and weeks went on. Also my mom had picked up the resell business and would sell at an outdoor swap meet stand. For that we had to wake up early in the morning to load up all the merchandise, and that was a lot of work since we had to bring it down for the second floor to the parking garage. Heavy boxes full of dish soap, laundry detergent and other things my mom would resell. That was every weekend early in the morning 4am to be exact because it was an hour drive to get there and we had to be there by 6am to set up. As crazy as it sounds I loved being part of that because it maid me feel important, at least I thought I was. To be part of something that I knew would put food on our table. All of those experiences at that age taught me that things had to be organized for them to work and to get that pay day we always looked forward to.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Hello, I’m German Barranca and I run German’s Laundry Service LV here in Las Vegas NV. I started this business after quitting the job I had do to personal and unsatisfactory conditions I had where I was working at. Now I won’t mention them but let’s just say things weren’t running good anymore there and I didn’t want to be caught up in a messy work place.
So after quitting I started brainstorming in what to do because I was out a job. I was offered a job a local Laundromat working behind the counter and basic maintenance. Took the position and like in every job I have worked for my performance stood out and was offered a position in which I’ll be in charge of going out and work in sales to bring in more work in the way of accounts for them to be processed there at the laundromat. As all of this started I was also doing my own laundry service on my time off work and stated having my own clientele. One day as I was asked to come in on what was my day off, I lost some of my clients because I had scheduled to do their laundry that day and I was really upset because I had lost good business that day to cover for someone and only made $100 that day. Went home and after discussing it with my wife I decided to quit and start what is now slowly growing known as German’s Laundry Service LV.
My wife helped me come up with name ideas and she helped me with the Logo, all the credit goes to her for that! Big shout out to her (Alice). She’s been there to help me out and stay grounded because this business can be a bit discouraging at points but nothing a little motivating conversation can’t help out with.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Area- Know your city, and your routes to when it comes to getting from one place to the next. Also know at what times the traffic is the heaviest so you’re not stuck in it for too long.

Prices- Setting up a base price is important, you have to take in account that you’ll be using up gas and also all the materials needed to get the job done. A base price should consist in throwing in gas cost, processing cost and the amount of time it’ll take you to process each order. Regular orders take about an hr to proces and you can usually process two or three at a time. All of those three things I think are the most important.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

Right now my biggest challenge and goal at the same time is getting a cargo van, small vehicle to save up in gas costs. That is really important because it can get very costly in the long run. Other than that I think that’s my main focus at moment. After that is obtained then we’ll move on to the next goal.
