We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Germôna Sharp. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Germôna below.
Germôna , so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I keep my creativity alive by always being open to learning and experiencing new things. I believe in keeping things fresh and new so that your mind stays sharp and your creativity remains flexible.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am an all-out entertainer. I am a vocalist, actress, and writer and I feel the most exciting thing about being an entertainer is all the places I can go, creatively.
The most I want people to realize and discover about me and my brand is that there is always something coming! I’m so excited to share what I’ve been working on! Whether that be music, film, theatre, etc…
Currently, I’m in rehearsal for a musical called For The Love of Harlem, I play the daughter of Madam CJ Walker, A’lelia Walker. The production is taking place in Charlotte, NC from Sept. 29th to Oct. 1st at the Parr Theatre.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say my willingness to be a student of the craft. Another quality is the execution of my plans, once I have a goal to reach I go after it and start to plan for the next level of work. Lastly, I take pride in knowing that my artistry can’t be duplicated. No one can do me how I do me and I’m only competing with what I’ve already done.
The best advice I can give artists on this journey is to focus on what is going on with you and find what fits your flow of creativity.
Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
I think it’s a little bit of both. When you know what your strengths are it can carry you to new opportunities and help showcase skills others may need. On the other hand, Improving in areas that you aren’t so strong in helps you grow new branches and reach new places. I never want to be a stagnant artist, I’m always looking for ways to improve on what I’m not the best at or learn how to do something I’ve never done. Having that trait will put you in spaces you never thought you would be.
