We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ghetto Styles. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ghetto below.
Ghetto, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
This is a great question. Honestly the best way to do that is simply to not care what anyone thinks. You have to understand that nobody likes everything including yourself. If you don’t like everything you see, hear, taste, or smell how can you expect everyone else to? Don’t focus on people who don’t like your content. Focus your energy on the ones that do. I feel like that is the best route to success.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
At this point my movement is going in a bit of a direction I could not have envisioned ten years ago. I have become sort of a teacher in the music production community. It’s been a very fulfilling journey because I have the opportunity to create while showing others how to do the same. It has caused a brand to grow on social media platforms on its own that I have become very proud of and passionate about. There is nothing better than showing someone positive steps they should take and hearing their relative success stories down the line. That’s amazing to me.
Along with that I’m currently working on a new album for people to enjoy and some new sample packs for my fellow creators.
It’s all about love for me. The more you put in, the more you get back.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
In this new space of content creation and education I think one of the biggest factors in success is research. It’s not always easy but always do your due diligence to make sure you deliver correct information. Sometimes things you “think you know” are definitely wrong. There is nothing wrong with fact checking yourself at all. In fact I encourage that.
Another factor you can use to your advantage is timing. If there is a particular product or platform you like to talk about then always take advantage of new releases when you can by sharing opinions on it or how to use it if you have it. New shiny things always have a buzz when they are announced or released. Content creators are now the new reporters.
Lastly I will say be authentic to yourself. It’s ok to take inspiration from others but don’t steal. Do things your way. Authenticity builds a much more loyal fan base that just being someone’s copy.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Actually believe it or not the answer to this is you! The viewers have been the most helpful and important piece in this journey. Literally every place of improvement I have made has been from viewers suggestions, feedback, and recommendations.
I remember early on creating YouTube videos using just an iPhone and I got a comment saying someone loved my videos but hated the sound. That prompted me to improve my sound quality. After that I improved my lighting. Then I improved my visual quality.
Every bit of that was at viewer requests. That why I have to give it up to you you guys. The viewers and supporters have been extremely important throughout this entire process. Sometimes I still have doubts people people keep me motivated to keep going.
