Meet Gianna Gutierrez

We were lucky to catch up with Gianna Gutierrez recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Gianna, so excited to have you with us today and we are really interested in hearing your thoughts about how folks can develop their empathy? In our experience, most folks want to be empathic towards others, but in a world where we are often only surrounded by people who are very similar to us, it can sometimes be a challenge to develop empathy for others who might not be as similar to us. Any thoughts or advice?

I have always been an empathetic person but my career has allowed me to develop this trait to the fullest extent. I meet tons of great people who have come from all kinds of backgrounds. Each person has their own story, strengths and challenges in life. Being able to listen to each of my clients tell theirs allow me to feel empathy and compassion for them in ways I wouldn’t have able to before. My empathy helps me understand how they feel and gives me a perspective of them personally as a human, and not just as a client or friend. This has helped me develop crucial relationships in life as well, which lead me to ways I can help be better for other people everyday.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am a nail technician located in Greenville, SC. I work in a private and comfortable suite that caters to anyone who is looking for a technician who specializes in Acrylic nail extensions and skilled nail art. I also offer relaxing Pedicures perfect for those looking for a luxury treatment and perfectly polished toes! I love to recreate any idea or image my client finds on Instagram or Pinterest and work as they watch their nail dreams come to life.

I love to make each client feel valued by offering complimentary snacks and drinks, along with optional silent sessions to those who are shy or anxious. I have a great movie playing 24/7 for those clients or anyone who just want to relax and watch a movie while they get their nails done. I also offer friendly therapeutic sessions to those who need advice or just need to vent. I value the opportunity to make my environment a safe space for each client that deserves to feel confident again!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three qualities, skills, or knowledge that were most impactful to my journey were communication, time management, and the knowledge of what it takes to run a business.

Communication played a big factor in my success because it helped make a great first impression on clients who are inquiring or those who have questions on specifics around their appointments. Communicating in a timely matter will ensure clients feel that they are important and valued in the questions they have.

Time management was important to the extent of learning how to properly use a work day to the fullest capability, appointment times, and how much time I work on my business altogether to balance work and life.

Having the knowledge it takes to run a business took a lot of patience and understanding the ins and outs of things such as marketing, accounting, inventory planning and so much more.

One piece of advice that I can give to those who are starting out their journeys in the same practice would be to have an open mind to always learning new things. Taking extra lessons or training on any of these skills will help tremendously as well to get a head start on what challenges to expect and be prepared for them.

How would you describe your ideal client?

An ideal client that fits the personality of my business would be someone who is open to creating art with me! A client who is willing to allow anything to be on their nails is a dream. This would help me expand my creativity, whether it is nail art, different uses of nail charms and sparkling crystals, or trying new techniques of mediums. Needless to say, all of my clients are amazing and have great ideas that I still thoroughly enjoy working on!
