We recently connected with Gianna Quick and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Gianna , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I credit my strong work ethic to my parents, who instilled in me the values of hard work, dedication, and perseverance from an early age. They made sure I understood that success doesn’t come easy—it takes commitment, resilience, and the willingness to push forward even when things get tough. Now, as a mother myself, I see those lessons in a whole new light. Balancing motherhood and my professional goals is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. There are days when exhaustion sets in, when it feels like there just aren’t enough hours to get everything done, but I remind myself why I’m doing it—not just for me, but for my daughter. I want her to grow up seeing firsthand what determination looks like, just as I did with my parents. No matter how difficult it is to find balance, I refuse to let go of my ambitions. I push forward every day, knowing that my hard work will not only build a better future for us but also teach her that anything is possible with perseverance and heart.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a mother and the proud owner of my own tattoo studio. Art has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, but I officially began my journey as a tattoo artist at the age of 19. From the moment I picked up a tattoo machine, I knew this was what I was meant to do. There’s something incredibly special about turning a client’s vision into a permanent piece of art—it’s not just about ink on skin, but about storytelling, self-expression, and creating something meaningful that lasts a lifetime.
My favorite style of tattooing is anything in black and grey. There’s a timelessness and depth to it that I find captivating—it allows me to focus on shading, contrast, and detail in a way that brings designs to life. Every piece I create is personal, and I take pride in making sure my clients walk away with something they’ll cherish forever.
Balancing motherhood and running a business hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been the most rewarding challenge of my life. My daughter is my biggest inspiration, and she motivates me to keep pushing forward, growing my business, and honing my craft.
Right now, I’m focused on expanding my studio and continuing to build a space where both artists and clients feel welcome, inspired, and empowered. I’m also working on some exciting new projects, including collaborations with other artists and possibly even hosting events that bring the tattoo community together. I want my studio to be more than just a business—I want it to be a place where creativity thrives and people leave feeling more confident and connected to their stories.
I’m incredibly grateful for where this journey has taken me so far, and I can’t wait to see what’s next.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey, there are three key qualities and skills that have been the most impactful in shaping my career as a tattoo artist and business owner:
Dedication & Work Ethic – Success in any artistic field, especially tattooing, doesn’t happen overnight. It takes years of practice, late nights, and a willingness to keep pushing forward even when things get tough. From the moment I became a tattoo artist at 19, I knew I had to give it my all. If you’re just starting out, my advice is to embrace the grind. Seek out mentors, practice constantly, and never get too comfortable—there’s always more to learn.
Patience & Adaptability – Tattooing is a craft that requires both technical skill and the ability to adapt to different styles, client requests, and even unexpected challenges during a session. Owning a studio has taught me that patience is just as important in business as it is in art. For those starting their journey, I’d say: Be patient with yourself and your progress. Growth takes time, and every challenge is an opportunity to improve.
People Skills & Building Connections – Tattooing isn’t just about putting ink on skin; it’s about understanding people, their stories, and making them feel comfortable and heard. Whether it’s a first-time client nervous about their tattoo or another artist looking to collaborate, building genuine relationships is everything. For those early in their journey, focus on communication, professionalism, and making every client experience a positive one—word of mouth is powerful, and a great reputation will take you far.
At the end of the day, the key to success is consistency. Keep learning, stay humble, and never lose sight of why you started. That passion will carry you through every challenge.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
As a studio owner, feeling overwhelmed comes with the territory—there’s always something that needs to be done, whether it’s managing clients, keeping the business running, or balancing creativity with the demands of ownership. When it starts to feel like too much, I’ve learned a few strategies that help me stay grounded:
Step Back & Prioritize – When I have a million things on my plate, I take a step back and break everything down. What actually needs to be done right now, and what can wait? I focus on the most urgent tasks first and remind myself that not everything has to be handled all at once.
Delegate When Possible – Owning a studio doesn’t mean I have to do everything myself. Trusting my team, whether it’s artists, front desk staff, or even outsourcing certain tasks, has been a game-changer. If you’re trying to do it all alone, you’ll burn out fast.
Take a Mental Reset – Sometimes, the best thing I can do is step away for a bit. Whether it’s taking a walk, listening to music, or even just sitting in silence for a few minutes, giving my mind a break helps me come back with a clearer perspective.
Remember Why I Started – When things get overwhelming, I remind myself why I opened my studio in the first place. Tattooing is my passion, and creating a space where both artists and clients feel welcome is something I’ve worked hard for. Keeping that in mind helps me push through tough days.
My biggest advice for other business owners? Don’t let stress make you forget the bigger picture. Take it one step at a time, lean on your support system, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Overwhelm is temporary, but the work you’re doing is building something lasting.
