We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Gianni Logan, Mba. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Gianni below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Gianni with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I started working at the age of 14 because my parents weren’t able to provide me with certain needs. My family struggled financially. Because of this, I knew that if I wanted to have certain experiences in life, I would have to make a way to have these things on my own. Unfortunately, when I started working as a teenager, all of the money I made was not spent on getting the things that I needed and wanted. I had to help my parents. Taking on financial responsibility within my family at such a young age has played a significant role in the woman that I am today. I believe it’s the reason why I’m so ambitious and will stop at nothing to achieve success in life. Helping my family at such a young age is also the reason why I truly enjoy serving others, doing whatever I can to add value in someone one else’s life.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I worked in Corporate America for 15 years as an Accountant for one of the world’s largest insurance brokerages. During my time in Corporate, I had the distinct advantage of learning to manage the financial operations of a multi-million dollar company. I learned the importance of strategic financial and tax planning within a business and how important it is for businesses to establish and track financial goals. Nine years into my career, I had a major epiphany. I looked at my bank account one day and said to myself “where is all of my money?” It was in that moment, I realized how badly I had been mismanaging my finances. Here I was an Accounting Leader, managing the financial operations of a multi-million dollar company but I was not managing my own! It was at that moment when I realized that if an Accountant, who should have known better, could mishandle their finances then how was the rest of the world handling theirs. I decided to start a business helping people manage their money. At the time, I was providing tax filing services to my family and friends so I decided to also offer tax filing services to individuals and business owners. My business quickly grew as people learned about my credentials and my experience as an Accountant in Corporate America. Over the past 6 years my business has grown tremendously. In 2023, I exited Corporate America to pursue full-time entrepreneurship and it has been one of the best decisions I ever made!
Because of my experience in Corporate America, I now work with small business owners to help them build “Corporate Level” businesses. I educate small business owners on the importance of strategic financial planning that includes tax saving strategies. In other words, I help small business owners “master their money”. When working with small business owners, I emphasize the importance of tracking the money they make and spend to ensure that they are getting a return on the investments they make to grow their business. So many business owners despise dealing with the financial side of business. They experience overwhelm, fear, guilt, and shame. I help business owners realize that managing their business finances is not much different from creating a personal budget. We work together to create simple solutions for managing their business finances and to help them understand how tax laws can benefit them as business owners.
I enjoy helping small business owners keep more of their hard-earned money in their pockets through tax saving strategies and seeing the light bulb go off in their mind when they realize that having a bookkeeping system really helps them to better understand their business and what decisions they need to make to grow.
Small business owners need support in so many aspects of their business and they need accountability. By working with hundreds of small business owners, I’ve discovered that they also need personal development. I am a firm believer that your level of personal development determines your level of success in business. It’s difficult to grow a successful business without growing yourself.
Which is why I’ve decided to expand my service to small business owners by restructuring an entirely different program that will provide small business owners with everything they need at every stage of business. My new program, Positioned to Profit, will help small business owners develop personally and professionally within their business.
Positioned to Profit will help small business owners master not only their money but also master their lives. Inside of the Positioned to Profit program, small business owners will learn everything they wished someone would have told them about running a successful business. They will learn how to properly pay themselves, how to set up systems and automations to get more time back in their lives, how to save money on taxes at every level of business, how to save for retirement, how to invest, how to track the money they make & spend, how to build business credit, how to eliminate unnecessary cost, and so much more.
Most importantly, small business owners will learn how to tap into the power of their unique talent & skills. Positioned to Profit will provide support and accountability to help business owners remain focused on what is most important in their business so that they can accomplish their goals.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Continually educating myself & developing my skills has been instrumental to my success. I pride myself on adding value in the lives of others and I can best do this by being an expert in my industry. Enhancing your skills as a business owner is also one of the best ways to set yourself apart from competition.
In the early stages of business, it is important for small business owners to invest in their education. I’ve observed that many business owners prematurely launch businesses without fully understanding how to position themselves as the expert in their industry and how to make their services and products desirable to others.
Marketing and sales play a crucial role in the success of a business; therefore, business owners must also invest in learning strategies that will allow them to attract and work with their ideal clients.
Running a business is not easy and it involves many different aspects. I think we’ve all heard the phrase, “Business owners wear many hats”. This is a very true statement. In the early stages of growing a business and even during the stage where a business begins consistently making money, small business owners are often doing everything! We’re creating content, prospecting for new clients, answering emails, creating resources, setting up systems, doing our own bookkeeping, etc. It gets to be a lot!
Learning to delegate sooner rather than later as a small business owner is extremely critical to the growth and success of a business. Often times small business owners assume they can’t afford to hire someone but the reality is “they can’t afford not to”. Not hiring an assistant leads to so many missed opportunities and hinders the growth of the business.
Of course as an Accountant I’ll also say that learning to master your money as a small business owner is an invaluable skill. I have witnessed tax clients spend five and six figures on coaching and education and not make any money in their business for months and years! This is a place I never want to see business owners in. In most cases, these clients did not have a bookkeeping system and they were not working with an Accountant who could help them make better financial decisions. It is so important to make time to review your finances as a business owner or work with someone who will hold you accountable for doing so.
Many business owners despise bookkeeping and taxes; however, they are an inevitable part of owning a business. Even if small business owners hire Accountants to handle their bookkeeping and taxes, they should still be involved in the process of managing their money so that they can be aware of what changes need to be made to grow their business and increase their profit.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The most influential book that I have read thus far is Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself by Dr. Joe Dispenza. This book was therapeutic! Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself forces you to take a deep look at who you really are while defining who you want to be. The book is filled with written exercises that helps you identify your gap (the place in between who you are and who you want to be). Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself then gives you a clear road map and process to follow so that you can become the person you desire to be.
I have read a multitude of personal develop books that have helped me make changes in my life but never have I read a book that produced lasting transformation.
My greatest take away from Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself is that we cannot change what we are unaware of. So many of us live our lives on auto pilot without taking moments to be still and better understand ourselves. As a result we often find ourselves repeating negative cycles in our lives. Awareness is the 1st step to change and it is difficult to change what we do not understand.
It’s important that we make it a habit to observe, question, and really understand what drives our behaviors and decisions so that we can live life on our terms and be creators in our lives instead of victims as Dr. Joe often says. This saying reminds me of something my dad always told me growing up. He would say to me “You have to direct the changes in your life, not simply go through them.”
