Meet GIN Musician

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful GIN Musician a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

GIN, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

I realized at a really young age that I loved music. I felt it in my heart and it made me happy. As I got older I became part of the music industry by promoting events and artists, eventually starting my own booking and promotions business. I came to a point in my life that all the energy I was putting out that I should be putting it into myself and in what makes me happy which is music.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a Hip-Hop and Amapiano artist from Los Angeles, California born and raised. My artist name is GIN and my motive is to Be Free meaning do what makes you happy and stick to it. I started my journey in 2012 releasing my first EP titled My Lyrical Expression EP, which was followed up with the Dream Getting EP in 2013. In 2018, I released my full album titled Spiritual Bars which is about personal development and spiritual growth. I was able to tour South Africa with the release of my first album which has evolved into touring East Europe and the Middle East. The follow up albums are GIN (2021), Birds of a Feather (2022), La Dolce Vita (2023) and I just announced I will be releasing my 5th independent album titled C’est La Vie which releases December 12, 2024.

I am not signed to a major label and I fund my own projects and music videos. Which you can check out on youtube.com/therealgin I also have clothing and gemstone bracelets available under the Spiritual Bars brand which is available at therealgin.bandcamp.com

I think the most exciting thing about making music is the creative part. I enjoy listening to beats and coming up with concepts and putting it together creating my own sound and style. I also enjoy the feedback I get from people that support and play my music. I think the greatest joy is when I see people dancing to my music in clubs or hearing it get played on the radio.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The most important skills to have are Faith, Perseverance and Hard Work!! You got to put the work in and believe in what you are doing. That is the most important thing and try not to get derailed by outside entities that don’t believe in what you’re doing or by people who think they are more important than you. That is where the perseverance kicks in you have to continue the journey, the path on what makes you truly happy.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I am looking to collaborate with anyone who is a vendor that can purchase my gemstone bracelets on wholesale to sell in their store or pop-up shop. For instance, my Gemstone Bracelets Spiritual Bars have been sold at the Museum of Latin American Arts in Long Beach, California. I am also looking to expand my network with DJs and with people who work on radio/podcasts.
