Meet Gina Cas

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gina Cas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Gina, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

As unexpected as it sounds, through comparison. When I was a little girl, then a teenager, I had very few opportunities to know myself through my interactions with others, because my circle was so small, the town I was born in was small too. I only began to understand who I was when I moved to a bigger city, because I observed those who had access to things I didn’t before, who I thought were more brilliant, more talented than I was…were not better. They were the same as me, I was the same as them. Then it was starting a business in the fashion industry, with no experience, entering the world of entertainment and celebrities. I realized they were people too, as I was, with hopes and dreams, they were not smarter or more talented, I was as good or better than many of them. With each goal I achieved, each mountain I climbed, my confidence went up.
Finally, it was moving to the US. My mind was not able to imagine a priori the kind of world it would reveal to me. I was not even daring to compare myself to any of what America would mean. The doors opened to me in the US and I accepted the invitation of the unknown, leaving all behind, taking a leap of faith, risking it all. That was the pivotal step in understanding what I was capable of. That made me invincible in my mind, I had crossed every barrier in my head, I had overcome every fear. That was the moment I realized I had the potential of achieving anything I set my mind to and also understood that life guides you towards your mission regardless. No matter the time, distance or blockage, you just have to take the first step and everything will reveal to you gradually. You have to believe, that’s why faith was also such an important factor in developing confidence in me and my destiny.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

As I said before, I’m an artist…and you’ll be having new music from me by the end of this year, for sure. I’ve been threatening you all for so many years with my new music, but now it’s for real. Life has shown me the green light. It’s time! I’ve been working on several instrumentals for the last 2 years with a talented producer and now I’m working on writing the lyrics on my own. New music and videos are in the making and I am so excited to be wildly creative with future visuals. It’s basically what I’m living for, it is what motivates me the most.
Even though I’ve been restricted and blocked for such a long time, I’ve been studying and observing the art of filmmaking, music production, dancing, singing, I gathered so many ideas and inspirational art, envisioned my next projects, learned new things and created a strategy that will now be so helpful in the artistic process.
I also plan to write my first book and movie script. I’ve been thinking about this for the last 10 years and honestly I haven’t seen or heard anything like my story before. It’s been an intense, out of this world journey, that is worth sharing and will for sure resonate with so many people, on so many levels, from so many social categories, but especially with young people who have felt unseen, unheard, unappreciated, inadequate, not part of this world, society or community, who have been bullied, outcast, silenced, abused or felt betrayed and mistreated. No one could ever understand them better than I do, we went through the same battles and maybe they need encouragement as much as I did to get out of the darkness.
It’s a totally new adventure for me, it’s exciting, finally all the projects I’ve ever wanted to accomplish are so close to reality, it all makes sense now and I get to be creative again.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Vision, courage and determination. These are the qualities I embodied and this would be my advice to all those who may be lost on their journey or can’t seem to figure it out. Take risks, dare, dream and take action towards your dreams, but then have patience. These are the 3 key factors in achieving anything in my opinion: dare to dream, take action and have patience while taking action. It’s a long road but you will feel closer and closer with every step you take, without procrastinating. It’s a battle with yourself and no one else. You have nothing to prove to others, but yourself, that your dreams and happiness matter.

Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?

I had to get better in areas I was not so prepared for, because life caught me by surprise with every project I had planned. I faced so many blockages and have had so many disappointing collaborations, with people who lacked vision, talent or professionalism, with poor quality standards, inexperienced or unmotivated, that I had no choice but to find the latent strength and ability to learn how to do it all on my own.
I had no one to rely on, so I was forced to learn about legal matters, contracts, negotiation, photography, retouching, video editing, tailoring my own clothes, building a brand, renovating and redecorating studios and stores, planning events, public relations, graphic design, web design, coordinating teams, sales, I had to learn a little bit of everything until I found the right people to work with, one by one.
Experimenting with all the above helped me understand more of what I wanted as an artist, what represented me as a brand and I truly learned how to be more assertive in my interactions with others and how to be a leader, so I guess it was all worth the effort.
