We were lucky to catch up with Gina Panozzo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Gina , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose in life through deep reflection and academic preparation. I realized at a young age I wanted to help others but in a significant way that would leave long-lasting results. When others were hurt or suffering, I internally felt their pain. When helping others, I have learned it is the most selfless and rewarding act. Becoming a nurse and advancing my education has allowed me to help individuals and organizations across the nation.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Gina Panozzo (Dr. Gina Panozzo DNP, RN-PMH-BC, CNE). I became a nurse in 2004 and gradually went on for further education until I obtained a terminal degree. I have a master’s degree in nursing administration, doctorate degree in nursing practice (executive leadership), am Board Certified in Psychiatric-Mental Health nursing, and am a Certified Nurse Educator. My background ranges in the nursing field from home health, hospice, psychiatric-mental health, quality improvement, research, and academia. In 2021, I started GP ACADEMY LLC, to assist nurses in reaching excellence, building their confidence, and guiding them in their professional and academic journeys. I assist faculty, psychiatric nurses, and hospitals/home health agencies improve their outcomes. Some of my most popular offerings are the PMH-BC review course, CNE review course, workshops for nursing faculty, Medical-Mental Health Spanish course, and consulting. Every day, I feel blessed to love what I do. When I see others excel and am a part of it, I feel extreme gratitude. Good leaders cultivate future leaders.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are: hard work, perseverance, and faith. I advise people to follow their passions and never give up. If one experiences setbacks, it is ok. Keep going forward. Failure is not an option. Believe in oneself and stay educated, whether it is in the form or formal or informal. Education has assisted me tremendously with empowerment. Study, read, and grow one’s skillset.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
In the last one year, I have reached and assisted thousands of faculty in assisting them in improving their teaching, service, and scholarship in nursing academia. What has contributed to this? I am very confident that is from word of mouth. Do your best in your work, care, give people your time, and they will provide you with the most incredible feedback and testimonials, which can be more impactful than thousands of dollars spent on marketing.
