Meet Gina Van Luven

We recently connected with Gina Van Luven and have shared our conversation below.

Gina, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

Resilience is an innate trait we are born with. It has two meanings: 1) The capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness. 2) The ability of a substance or object to spring back into shape; elasticity. These definitions are utilized during childbirth by both the mother and child. So, right out of the gate every human who survives childbirth is resilient.

Over time, however, people can become less resilient. I don’t know how this happens, although I have theories. Personally, as a child, I experienced many challenges both emotionally and physically. Childhood traumas can cause some people to shut down and not want to face things. Somewhere along the way I decided I wouldn’t let those challenges break me and that I was more than what happened to me. This is not to say I wasn’t negatively affected in any way…I most certainly was. Nevertheless, I was able to rise above them and create success in my relationships, career and even health.

Rising above doesn’t negate the reality of what happened, however. And ‘stuffing’ or ignoring those things didn’t do me any favors. Over the past 20 plus years I’ve become aware of how this affected me physically and learned how to neutralize challenges versus ignoring or stuffing them away. It’s not always easy and sometimes I just want to crawl under a rock and hide for a while. But I know this won’t resolve anything and that, in order to ‘neutralize’ the issue, I must face it. THAT is resilience…facing the challenge and moving through or around it as quickly as possible.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I own an IV spa in Mesa, Arizona. We have customers from all walks of life and different health scenarios. I opened Prime IV to provide another tool to help improve and maintain others’ health and well-being. It’s a wonderful place to get hydrated, filled up with nutrients, relax and rejuvenate.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. During challenging times, always remember “This, too, shall pass.”
2. Keep your mind on your goals and don’t get distracted by failures…fail FORWARD.
3. Remember your past doesn’t have to be your future. You can make changes NOW to create your future.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

I’ve had many mentors over the years. I feel having one or more is critical to success, whether personal or professional.
