We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ginger Cressman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ginger below.
Hi Ginger , so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
As an actress and model, self care does not come from the usual ideas of focusing on self. It is actually quite the opposite. In this business, there is a LOT of focus on self. There is constantly the need to keep your appearance nice, body healthy, photos updated, etc…For self care, I unplug. I forget the need to impress anyone. I am not someone who cares what anybody thinks, but at the same time —we still have to impress casting directors and producers and directors constantly. We have to compete to win.
Self care for me is doing something for other people. It is volunteering at a shelter, playing with my kids, donating to a good cause. It is actually taking the focus off of “self” and focusing it on others.
Another form of self care for me is spending time in nature. If I take the focus off of self, and focus on the beauty and realness of the world around me by visiting the bay near my house or simply sitting in my backyard, I forget me and that is where inner healing and peace can take place.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am an actress and model. I act in feature films, short films, commercials and anything else that comes my way. I love to become different characters and tell beautiful or entertaining stories.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
When you begin in acting and modeling you have to realize that you will NOT land every job. You will NOT land most things you submit or audition for. You are competing with sometimes hundreds or thousands of others. Believe in yourself. Focus on what is ahead. Do not worry about what anyone else is doing. Do your thing and enjoy. Don’t let your self esteem decline because of constant rejection and comparison. It is very difficult to do at first, but you have to enjoy the job and focus on the positive. Find ways to help other people in their journey. Enjoy it. Laugh at yourself. Making movies is FUN!!

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
I love this question. I owe my parents everything in the world. They weren’t the parents signing me up for my every whim. They were the parents making dinner, working hard, letting me try things but never doing it for me. They were two feet solid on the ground but encouraging at the same time. I was allowed to explore my interests, but if I wanted to do something — like model –I had to figure it out myself by networking, reading books, etc.. They would drive me where I needed to go, but the rest was up to me. It was not their job to discover my talents, to figure out what I needed to do to reach my goal or any such thing. My parents let me be me but they also were themselves. Through this, I developed the fortitude to discover things on my own. I figured out how to make things work. I dreamed but had to put in the work if I wanted anything to move forward because nobody was going to do it for me. I believe that is why I am successful today. I learned how to work hard and figure things out.
They were (are) hardworking, kind, practical people. Dreamers need parents like that! They were also full of godly wisdom and counsel. They prayed for us kids, read the Bible with us and taught us to be good humans. My mother went to be with the Lord in 2021 but I think of her every day and still hope to make her proud. My dad is here for me any time I need him even now.
