Meet Giorgia Cavicchioli

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Giorgia Cavicchioli. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Giorgia below.

Giorgia, we are so deeply grateful to you for opening up about your journey with mental health in the hops that it can help someone who might be going through something similar. Can you talk to us about your mental health journey and how you overcame or persisted despite any issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
My mental health has always been a challenge for me. I had anorexia and depression in a very young age, at 12. But I survived. I also overcame anxiety, that I developed during the pandemic and after my father passed away, in 2021. It was a difficult journey, I am not gonna lie. But, at the same time, those “low points” made me appreciate every single little accomplishment. I’ve learned how to make a plan and have a goal, but appreciate every single day and every single good thing that happen in my life. I think that, at the same time that being too emotional can be my biggest flaw, it can be my biggest strength. I think I can really empathise with every single being in this world, and this helps me to be a better human and a better actress. Also, I think we can use every single bad thing that happens to us as an inspiration to tell stories. As a writer, I think that my story, any story, can be relatable to a lot of people and help them to overcome the same challenges. Art is very helpful in that sense, and I remember that, during the most difficult times in my life, music, movies, and songs helped me to cope with my issues. I think I can help other people with my stories, in a funny but still serious way. Right now I am in the preproduction process to start shooting my first short movie in February 2024. The movie’s name is Serial Dater and it is a comedy based on my struggle with my inner deamos and my journey to be able to finally love myself.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think the 3 most important this to me as an artist is empathy, focus and positive energy. I think the best way to develop those skills is putting yourself into a vulnerable position and go and live our lifes. I think my background as a journalist helped me a lot to empathise with different stories then mine and living in another country helped even more. I am originally from São Paulo, Brazil, and coming to LA made me realise how the world is big and how our own universe is so small, but at the same time is so big. We can relate to everyone and everyone can relate with us. Humans are complicated, but so interesting and complex. I love to be able to find things that I can relate with my characters. Sometimes I think: “I am completely different from this character”, but then I do my research and connect with them and realise that we are way more similar than I used to think we were.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
I think that the hardest thing in this business is to try and tell your story with a very limited budget. I’ve been facing this right now with Serial Dater. It is really hard to make it work. But I am making it work with the help of the wonderful director and friend Priscilla Runion. Right now I am being the executive producer of Serial Dater too, but I would love for people that can relate with the story can help me with my next project that will come up after this one is done. The next one is going to be a feature, a drama based on my relationship with my father, who passed away unexpectedly 3 years ago.
