Meet Giovanni Cristoff

We recently connected with Giovanni Cristoff and have shared our conversation below.

Giovanni, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
All I did was understand where this undeserving feeling came from and I handled it. My spirit couldn’t have the success that happened so fast, but then I realized I deserved the great things coming to me because I indeed do the work. I struggled with doubt because I felt like I didn’t execute my acting procedures correctly, so then I became patient with the process. I stopped planning with my intellect and let my imagination run free. Then I truly overcame when I knew my imagination is more potent than an idea. My imposter syndrome vanished when I believed in my work.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
The only thing I wish to do on this planet is heal the broken; Replenish the scarred and re-teach the lost. Our souls have immense potential that has been given to us, but society and inevitably ourselves put us down. Why is this? The human condition. The soul’s condition. No matter what play or film, every character has a battle within themselves and others. A tango of flowing water bouncing off each other. That is life. We constantly change for the better or worst, truly affecting each other throughout our lifespan. Building life-long relationships or the ugliest baggage. I want to express the entire scale of the soul from utmost peace to deep dark voids of agony. My dream is to bring old themes of Ancient Greece & Shakespeare to modern theatre. Tales that move people and touch their heart to such a degree, they change their lives for the better and start making sense of their own hardships in life. To cure this planet, from the dirt to its creatures that continue to roam, that is my dream.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Quality 1 is knowledge of the ideal scene. The best works of art ever made. Really dissecting and studying these genius films or plays. Examine the art you hold dear and what it did for you, Its contribution to mankind. Being intimate with these themes you can implement what you’ve found artistically appealing into your own works.

2. A skill to have and is crucial for all actors is the ability to understand. To truly grasp the material with no judgement. If you understand everything you are god, god can be anything, I become god in my understanding of nature and this physical space around us. To really coat yourself in the sleeve of a subject until you know it like the back of your hand. That is the mark of a legendary actor.

3. Always learning, discovering, exploring, having that adventurous inner-child in you. Never afraid to face a new challenge. Keeping the mind, soul, and body healthy no matter what age. I’ve never grown up and I don’t think I ever will because this boy inside is always searching for more.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My Uncle Gino Montesinos has shown me most of what I know. Art, life, study, fitness, work ethic, love, pain, history, the human condition, etc. I thank him to this day as another soul I can relate and can talk to. My brother Sebastian as well has gotten me through a lot. In the midst of relationships, artwork, and life’s obstacle these two people have kept me sane. We as artists keep each other sane come to think of it. My heroes Pacino, De Niro, & Brando as well give me the ray of light that keeps me going. If they did it so can Gino, Sebastian, & me. You can too.
