We recently connected with Girly Anderson and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Girly with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My grandmother was a remarkable woman who migrated from Cuba with just the clothes on her back. She worked tirelessly, utilizing all of her resources and strength to establish a laundry mat, daycare center, and lounge, which served as the cornerstone for her family’s foundation. My grandmother instilled in me the value of persistence and determination, teaching me never to accept “no” as an answer. Despite facing language barriers and the negative stigma surrounding immigrants, she remained unwavering in her pursuit of her dreams and taking care of her loved ones. I am forever grateful to my grandmother for imparting in me the spirit of resilience and fortitude before she passed away. Through her teachings, I have come to understand that with enough determination and hard work, there are no limits to what I can achieve.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my personal journey, I have come to realize that the three most influential qualities that have helped me achieve my goals are perseverance, adaptability, and a willingness to learn. These qualities have allowed me to overcome obstacles, adjust to changes, and continually improve myself. Perseverance is the quality of being persistent and determined in the face of adversity. It means never giving up, even when things seem impossible. In my experience, perseverance is key to achieving success, as it requires a strong work ethic and a positive attitude. Adaptability is the quality of being able to adjust to new situations and environments. It means being flexible and open-minded, and willing to embrace change. Being adaptable has allowed me to navigate through unexpected challenges and to take advantage of new opportunities. A willingness to learn is the quality of having an open mind and a desire to acquire new knowledge and skills. It means being curious and always seeking improvement. This quality has helped me to stay ahead of the curve, to remain relevant, and to continuously grow both personally and professionally. For those who are starting their own journey, I would advise you to keep these qualities in mind and to actively work on developing them. Seek out opportunities to challenge yourself, learn new things, and practice perseverance and adaptability. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or guidance when needed, and surround yourself with people who will support and encourage you along the way. Remember that success is not achieved overnight, but it is the result of consistent effort and a commitment to personal growth.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I usually take a step back and try to identify what is causing the feeling. From there, I make a to-do list of all the tasks that need to be done and prioritize them based on urgency and importance. Sometimes, taking a break and doing something completely unrelated can also help clear my mind and refocus. It’s important to remember to take care of yourself and not let stress take over.
