We recently connected with Gizelle Perez and have shared our conversation below.
Gizelle, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
My generosity is rooted in my faith. I truly believe that every good thing in my life, including the people I’ve met and the opportunities I’ve had, has been a blessing from God. He’s placed the right friends in my path, who have encouraged me, uplifted me, and shown real kindness. Through those relationships, I’ve learned what love in action looks like. The bible teaches us to love one another and to give without expecting in return, and that’s the kind of heart I try to carry in everything I do. Business wise, I see braiding as more than a service. Its a space to pour into others make them feel seen, loved, and valued. For me, generosity isn’t just about giving, its about reflecting the love and grace that God has freely given me.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Im a 32 year old, proud puerto Rican mama of 2 amazing boys, 3 loveable pitbulls, and even a bearded dragon! This October will mark 5 years of braiding hair as The Gspot Braids full time and its been such a beautiful journey. Braiding started as a small interest after losing my job bartending during the pandemic and needing to re-invent myself. Over time, its grown into my purpose. I’ve been able to build real friendships and deep bonds with other braiders, and I’ve had the honor of hosting special events and collaborating in others, which have helped build a sense of community around this craft
Professionally, my focus is always to help people feel more confident and seen. Not just through their hairstyles, but in how they see themselves. There’s something spiritual about transformation, and I try to make every appointment more than just a style. I want it to be an experience that uplifts.
Looking ahead, I’m really excited about creating more events that not only bring people together but also open doors for other stylists and creatives. I want to keep showing up for my community, building spaces where beauty, encouragement, and connection meet. And most of all, I just want to follow God wherever he leads
I know his plans for me are bigger than anything I could ever imagine, so my eyes are fixed on him and my heart is open.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I’d say the 3 most impact full things in my journey were being brave, being teachable, and being intentional about community.
Being brave really catapulted me forward. I didnt wait until everything was perfect. I jumped in, said yes to classes, showed up to networking events, and put myself in rooms with people who were already seasoned in business. That courage to just go for it even when I was nervous or unsure, opened up doors that I know wouldn’t have opened if I waited for everything to “feel ready”.
Being teachable was another major key. I never assumed I knew it all- and still dont! I soaked up knowledge from other stylists, business owners, and mentors. I listened, I watched, and I stayed open to learning, even when it meant starting from the bottom in certain rooms.
Lastly, building community. I didnt want to just grow my business. I wanted to grow relationships. I’ve been intentional about forming genuine bonds with other braiders and women in business. Those connections became a circle of encouragement, and we continue to pour into each other.
My advice to anyone early in their journeys this: Be brave. Say yes, even when its scary. Show up to the events. Take the classes. Ask the questions. Keep moving forward until you find or build the community that feeds your spirit and pushes you to grow. And then, once you’ve got all that, give those good vibes right back. Pour into others like someone poured into you. That’s how you stay full and keep walking in purpose.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Absolutely! Im always open to collaborating, especially with people who have a heart for community, creativity, and purpose. I love working with other braiders, stylists, beauty professionals, event planners, and even creatives outside the beauty world who want to make an impact. If your someone who believes in uplifting others, showing up with excellence, and creating spaces where people feel seen and celebrated, then I’d love to connect!
Whether it’s hosting events, working behind the scenes, teaching, or just brainstorming ways to serve our communities, I’m all for it. I believe when you bring like-minded , spirit-led people together, the impact multiplies.
