Meet Gloria Bali

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gloria Bali a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Gloria, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I was a child actor at the age of 5 all the way to 16 and I found out that I want to be a director.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I have a production company name Blue eyes Pictures LLC which is focusing in making movies I currently finished a short film name PAPA and I am working on a feature length documentary which is focusing on Michael Jackson humanitarian work.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Adaptability and Resilience
Why it matters:
The creative industry is fast-moving, unpredictable, and highly competitive. Being able to pivot, learn from setbacks, and bounce back stronger is crucial. Projects get canceled, feedback can be harsh, and timelines change constantly.
Advice to develop it:
i put myself in situations regularly to build emotional muscle—whether that’s pitching an idea, taking on a new role, or navigating conflict.
Reframe failure as feedback. Journaling your experiences or sharing lessons learned with mentors can help shift perspective.
Practice mindfulness to stay grounded amid chaos—tools like meditation or exercise can help build long-term mental toughness.
Strong Communication and Relationship-Building
Why it matters:
No matter how talented you are, your success often hinges on how well you collaborate, communicate, and connect. Many opportunities come from relationships, not résumés.
Advice to develop it:
Actively listen more than you speak—really understanding what others need builds trust.
Follow up and stay connected. A short check-in email, a thank-you note, or sharing someone’s work goes a long way.
Get comfortable with feedback and asking questions. It shows maturity and openness, which makes you someone others want to work with.
Mastery of Craft + Curiosity
Why it matters:
Whether it’s editing, storytelling, logistics, or technology—having a deep knowledge of your core skill builds credibility. Curiosity ensures you never stagnate and stay relevant as the industry evolves.
Advice to develop it
Always be learning. Take online courses, read industry blogs, or shadow someone whose work you admire.
Work on personal projects. They show initiative, help you grow fast, and give you something to talk about in interviews.
Seek mentorship or peer feedback. A second pair of eyes often reveals blind spots and helps you improve more quickly.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

definitely my professors at california state university Northridge and loyola marymount university. And my sister and my family. There is not just one person there are a lot of people my friends and everyone who supported me during this journey.
