Meet Gloria Walker

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gloria Walker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Gloria, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

I found my confidence and self-esteem through a combination of personal reflection, overcoming challenges, and embracing my inner strength. Initially, I struggled with self-doubt and the weight of external expectations, but my journey has been marked by moments of resilience and growth. As I faced obstacles and learned to trust my instincts, I began to recognize my own worth. My confidence grew as I confronted my fears, took risks, and achieved personal victories. Each setback became a stepping stone, teaching me valuable lessons about perseverance and the power of self-belief. Along the way, I also learned to surround myself with supportive people who uplift and encourage me, further reinforcing my sense of self-worth. Ultimately, my confidence is rooted in my ability to rise above adversity, take control of my own narrative, and embrace my unique strengths. My journey becomes a powerful testament to the idea that true confidence comes from within, forged through resilience and self-discovery.

A GESTURE OF LOVE is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Corporation that values people above all else. Our core mission is to support the community by enhancing the lives of children, women, and men, helping them realize their full potential. We believe in the fundamental importance of education in society and work tirelessly to make it accessible to all, regardless of their circumstances.
We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and compassionate society, and our approach revolves around education. We sponsor students by providing essential school supplies in various communities, ensuring that education is not just a privilege but a right for all. This is our way of empowering the future generations.
Beyond education, we extend our care to meet the social needs of families in various ways. We provide essential items that make a tangible difference in the lives of countless individuals. Our commitment extends to children, women, and men of diverse abilities, and we believe in nourishing both bodies and minds.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

6. Three key qualities that played a significant role in shaping my growth are resilience, self-awareness, and the courage to take risks. Resilience allowed me to push through challenges and setbacks without giving up. Every obstacle became a lesson that strengthened my resolve, teaching me that failure isn’t the end, but an opportunity to learn and grow. For those starting out on their journey, building resilience means embracing difficulties as temporary, surrounding yourself with supportive people, and seeing every challenge as a stepping stone. Self-awareness was another critical factor in my growth. Understanding my emotions, limitations, and strengths gave me the clarity to make decisions aligned with my true self. This level of self-reflection helped me navigate tricky situations with more confidence and insight. To develop this skill, it’s essential to take time for personal reflection, whether through journaling, meditation, or simply paying attention to how you react to life’s challenges. The more you understand yourself, the easier it becomes to approach life with confidence. Finally, my courage to take risks was a turning point in my journey. I realized that staying in my comfort zone limited my growth, and stepping into the unknown brought new opportunities. For those early in their journey, embracing risk means starting small and gradually building your confidence in taking on bigger challenges. By being willing to face uncertainty, I found new strengths within myself and this boldness was key to my transformation. Ultimately, resilience, self-awareness, and the courage to take risks will guide anyone toward personal growth and success.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

I primarily give credit to My Lord and Savior: Jesus Christ for entrusting to help others through A Gesture Of Love. I also could not do what I do without my team of directors, support team, volunteers, sponsors, and partners. Another resource that significantly contributes to personal growth and productivity are hinds feet on high places by hannah hurnard. This illustrated book talks about trusting the journey of life and embracing all the small the twist and turns that life throws at you. This can bring remarkable improvements in one’s life. I also love to write and have written 3 books which are The Book of Gloria, The Journey Ahead not Always A Dream and its spanish version: El Viaje Adelante: No Siempre es Un Sueño. All available on Amazon, Kindle, Audible and various websites. I love Apps Like Canva, adobe and many others to help me with organization and creativity
