We recently connected with Grable Howie and have shared our conversation below.
Grable, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Honestly, I make the choice each day to overcome imposter syndrome. In no way have I rid the unproductive thoughts of worthlessness and doubt that inevitably enter my mind, but I’m developing stronger tactics to fight them. I have newfound faith in God and I believe each person is put here in this world for a reason. To me, my reason has always been music, so I have faith in my path. Imposter syndrome is a result of jealously. I remind myself not to envy others and only to worry about what I can control. The harder I work and the more kindness I show to others, the more at peace I feel. Each morning I get out of bed and try to choose action rather than worry or fear. Sometimes I fail, but I never give up on that objective. Lastly, I’m trying to have a healthier relationship with social media!!
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My career is in music! I’m an artist, songwriter, and producer. In May of 2025, I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a bachelors degree in Independent Recording & Production. I’ve been releasing music under my name for about a year and a half now. I also have songwriting and production credits with multiple artists in many different genres. Currently I’m living in Longmont, CO, but I’m gearing up for a move to Nashville to continue pursuing my musical goals. I’ve been performing all over Colorado for months now and I’m about to play Roots Music Festival in Boulder later this month (October 18th). My passion for this craft stems from my belief that music can help people more than words. I hope every piece of music I’m a part of can help people process their emotions, mend their pain, or ease their struggles.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The first skill I think of is discipline. In no way do I see myself as being the most disciplined person there is, but I can feel the correlation it has to my levels of peace and joy. Therefore, I strive to go the extra mile, work when I’m tired, and do the right thing even when it’s hard. Another trait I find important is consistency. Going hand in hand with discipline, I think small actions/choices taken over a long period of time will be more fruitful than enormous one-time efforts. Lastly, I see compassion as a must, especially in music. After all, music is meant to help people, so making efforts of compassion outside of music each day feels important to me. In terms of how to develop these traits, I’m no expert, but thinking about the way I feel when I’m not disciplined, consistent, or kind is a good motivator for me to make better choices down the road.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents have always supported my career in music. I can never think of a time where they’ve had reservations with me pursuing even the loftiest of goals. Having their trust and faith is more important to me than they will ever know. Even now as I’m getting ready to move to Nashville to chase a career as an artist/songwriter (something countless people attempt) they are only routing for my success and offering any help they can give. Since my earliest years, they’ve pushed me and set the bar high because they believe in me. I’m so grateful for them!!
