We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Grace E.G. a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Grace E.G, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
I read this question and think to myself -I too want to know- hahaha. To give you an answer, overcoming imposter syndrome is a continuous, evolving process that I actively work on every day, recognizing that the battle against self-doubt is never truly “finished.” I believe that understanding the root of imposter syndrome is essential; it often stems from early family dynamics, societal pressures, and deeply ingrained perfectionist tendencies that make us question our self-worth.
In my journey, I learned that these feelings don’t define my abilities but are rather a call to delve deeper into my personal history and the external messages that have shaped my self-perception. By embracing self-compassion, challenging negative self-talk with tangible evidence of my accomplishments —big and small— , and routinely reflecting on my progress—even on days that feel less triumphant—I’ve found a sustainable way to combat those internal voices of inadequacy.
Every win, whether big or small, serves as a reminder that I belong and that growth is a lifelong journey. Overcoming imposter syndrome isn’t about eliminating self-doubt overnight but about acknowledging its presence, understanding its origins, and continuously working towards a mindset that celebrates genuine, hard-earned achievements.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Sure! I love talking about my job, and more often than not, you will hear me say that I wear many hats in the office, hahaha, but I work as FLMagazine’s Editor-in-Chief and Creative Director. I have the honor of steering a publication that not only captures global cultural narratives but also redefines how we view the world through innovative storytelling. Every day, I get to collaborate with a dedicated team of creative minds to curate content that spans mainly in fashion, but also art, travel, and beyond—ensuring that every piece reflects our commitment to quality, diversity, and thought-provoking insights. It’s truly amazing!.
What excites me most about my and our work and what I do, is the vibrant mosaic of voices and perspectives that we bring together, challenging conventional narratives and inspiring readers to explore beyond the ordinary. In addition to our ongoing editorial journey, I am very thrilled about a new extension to FLMAG that is CASA ARTE. This is an art gallery project that we are working on, expecting to launch sometime in the Spring-Summer of this year—Hopefully—
CASA ARTE will be nestled in the heart of New York City. and will be an art gallery that offers you a dynamic, curated collection of contemporary artworks that ranges from emerging talents to established artists. This is more than just a gallery; it’s an inviting space designed to stimulate the senses and inspire contemplation, where art enthusiasts and casual observers alike can engage with captivating narratives woven into every piece. I happily invite you to join us in celebrating this exciting expansion and to immerse yourself in the transformative world of art and culture that FOREIGN LOOK MAGAZINE and CASA ARTE are proud to be soon showcasing.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
When looking back and reflecting on my professional journey, I’ve found that three core qualities have been transformative, those are, discipline, organization, and an unwavering attention to detail. These traits not only ensure consistency and reliability in my work but also create a solid framework for tackling complex projects.
For those just starting out, developing discipline means setting clear goals and establishing daily routines that keep you accountable—they can be small but consistent actions that build a strong foundation over time. When it comes to organization, on the other hand, is about managing your time and resources efficiently; try using planning tools, calendars, or project management apps to create a structured workflow that minimizes overwhelm. Equally important is being detail-oriented—this quality ensures that nothing slips through the cracks —I could informally say that may mean being a little bit of a perfectionist, haha—but whether it’s in editing a feature or finalizing a design.
Growing up, I had the opportunity to be exposed to a diverse range of art forms and engage with different cultures, which allowed me to realize the importance, for example, of being able to communicate in different languages, and then that translating into me becoming a polyglot, opening doors to broader perspectives and deeper connections. This exposure —had— and has continued to spark innovative ideas and nurtured a unique creative voice that —I believe—sets my “signature” level of work quality.
Now, when it comes to advice, I don’t necessarily like giving advice, hahaha. Because I’m still growing, I’m still learning, I’m still very much on my journey. But to answer this question to the best of my abilities, my advice for those who are early in their journey is to embrace experiences: actively seek out —in this case—artistic inspiration, and be curious, I like to describe myself as a very curious person. I see something, and ask how it is made? Or can I do that?, and never shy away from opportunities that push you out of your comfort zone—and trust me, this is coming from an extremely introverted person, who has sadly passed on opportunities because I was too shy, so I know a thing or two of stepping out of “the comfort zone”—So, these practices will not only refine your skills but also empower you to tell compelling stories and build meaningful connections in every professional setting you may find yourself into.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Absolutely—collaboration is at the heart of what we do at FOREIGN LOOK MAGAZINE. I’m constantly on the lookout for creative visionaries, innovative storytellers, and dynamic professionals who are passionate about global culture, art, fashion, design, and fresh narratives. Whether you’re a photographer, writer, designer, curator, or digital creator with a unique perspective and a keen eye for detail, I’d love to hear from you.
I’m particularly interested in individuals who not only bring technical expertise but also a deep curiosity about diverse cultures and emerging art forms—people who, like us, believe in the power of art and fashion to inspire change and spark meaningful conversations. Collaborations can range from co-developing editorial content and multimedia projects to —soon—partnering on unique exhibitions at our new —upcoming—CASA ARTE gallery. So, if you’re excited about forging new creative paths together and pushing boundaries in storytelling, please connect with me/us via our website’s contact page or email us directly at [[email protected]]. I am so ready, let’s build something extraordinary together!
