Meet Grace J. Park

We recently connected with Grace J. Park and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Grace J., so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?

I consider setting boundaries as a form of self-care! Being firm with my boundaries has actually increased my effectiveness because it creates a separation from my work life and personal life which is crucial to being able to relax and mentally take a break.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I studied Apparel, Textile, and Design at the University of Idaho, where I developed a deep passion for fashion and discovered the wide range of career opportunities the industry offers. When I graduated, I knew I wanted to work in fashion, but I wasn’t sure exactly where I fit in. After a few months of unemployment and plenty of pros and cons lists, I realized styling was my true calling.

Determined to get my foot in the door, I reached out to 15 stylists in Seattle to inquire about job opportunities. I received 12 non-responses, 2 rejections, and one “yes.” That was all I needed. I packed my bags and moved to Seattle, where I worked for the stylist who gave me that chance. After a few months, I gained the confidence to network and build more industry connections. This led to a job as an assistant stylist, where I learned the ins and outs of the styling world—everything from photoshoots to client management.

That experience sparked the realization that I needed to bet on myself and trust in my own vision for my brand. So, I took the leap and founded Park Avenue Styling. My services range from styling for special events, photoshoots, and closet organization, to personalized styling sessions and celebrity lookbooks. In short, I do it all when it comes to style!

I recently started to expand into bridal styling! I help brides by taking on more of the styling aspect of wedding planning like looking for dresses – I will make the bridal appointments and pull dresses that are the best fit for my client so they don’t feel so overwhelmed by the large selection, while making sure I’m an advocate for the bride and their decisions.

I want to help people embrace their authentic selves through clothing that reflects who they are and aligns with their personal brand. I’m most proud of the values that Park Avenue Styling stands for, and I take pride in staying true to those principles. My brand is all about authenticity. I want to know what makes you, you and make it shine!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Resiliency, empathy and authenticity were the most impactful in my journey. For folk who are early in their journey and want to develop or improve on these qualities and skills, you have to be strong in your morals and beliefs. For those that are female-identifying, know that your sensitivity and empathy is so valuable and something you should never lose or compromise on. Challenge yourself everyday and educate yourself.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

My parents are my biggest supporters, I couldn’t be where I am without their constant support and reassurance! When there were days I had doubts about myself and my business, my parents provided me with constant support and didn’t let myself dwell in the doubt for long.
It’s so important to have people in your corner cheering for you – find your support system and appreciate them everyday!
