We were lucky to catch up with Grace Johnson-Wright recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Grace, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my parents. Both of my parents taught me about working hard and creating work that you are proud of. They taught me the value of entreprenuership and working a traditional 9-5, how to raise a family, chase after your dreams, and excel in the workforce. They taught me about sacrifice and time-management. I was blessed to see both of my parents in my household hustle hard and work together to provide the lifestyle that I was able to live.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m newly wed (April 2022) and I just gave birth to my 3rd baby girl on 1/5/23. I’m a full time wife, mom, and boss. I work in my businesses and my home full time. I own two dance studios (over 250 students enrolled), competitive dance team and production company. I also mentor aspiring dance artists and business owners. I’m focused on growing and scaling my business. I enjoy the marketing and public relations part of entreprenuership and ofcourse i love teaching, training, and developing dancers.
On June 4th my studio will host an Industry Hip-hop master class taught by the talented Phil Wright of Disney’s “Fam Jam”.
My dance students will be performing in our Spring Dance Concert at Howard University on June 11th.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities, skill, or areas of knowledge – Time-management
– Passon/dedication
– Emotional Maturity
Learn all that you can while you can!
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Every boss that I have ever had in the corp industry has truly helped teach me the value of my work and knowledge. I learned from all of them the right or wrong way to manage a team, how to make clients happy, and how to place staff in a corporation that will utilize their skills.
