Meet Grace Schupp

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Grace Schupp. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Grace below.

Grace, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Finding my purpose wasn’t so much finding it but bringing to the surface of what has been part of me all along. I knew I have always wanted to help people become contagiously healthy but it wasn’t until I let go of all of the pressures and expectations that I and others had placed on me over the years that I could actually realize that was what I wanted all along.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Sickness is not the only thing that is contagious. Health is too! Think about it, when you make the choice to become healthier, everyone around you is impacted. When you are healthy, you are more patient with the kids, you are more present with your spouse, your quality of work is better because you aren’t burned out. Imagine how that kind of impact could spread!

I give women the tools they need for contagious health. The fact is, the power that stress can have on your health, mind and happiness can seem like a vicious cycle. But the cycle does not have to continue. I teach you how to access the ability to relax that is already inside you through the practice of yoga, mindfulness techniques, and breathing practices.

I offer private, personalized yoga classes where it’s convenient for you – virtually, in your home or workplace. The sessions I teach are suited to all levels of yoga practitioners, including All Levels Flow (Vinyasa), Yoga for Athletes, Power Flow, Prenatal Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Children’s and Teen’s Yoga, Yin Yoga, Yoga for Digestion, and Yoga for Stress.

I am available to teach private yoga, office yoga, workshops, pop up classes and special events in the Clayton, Pine Level, Wilson, Princeton, and Goldsboro North Carolina. I also teach virtual yoga for those that prefer the online space or are out of the local area. I am an insured Registered Yoga Teacher and 200 Hour Yoga Alliance Member, holding a variety of certifications and specialties.

It is my goal to make sure that you feel comfortable and supported in class. I always seek to provide a friendly and welcoming environment where we can tune-in, relax and even laugh a little. I want to help YOU become CONTAGIOUSLY HEALTHY

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Most definitely flexibility, community and rest and let me explain. As a yoga teacher, I have found that there is an ebb and flow to the fitness industry as there are times of the year when people are seeking out fitness options and help for achieving their goals. The key is to remain flexible during those ebbs and flows. The change in interest in a certain class can change and it is not a reflection of the teacher or the teacher’s ability to teach. It is only the season. This is where flexibility comes in. Yoga teachers must be willing to pivot their classes and offerings to meet the client where they are, specifically in the season that they are in.
I have also discovered that solo-preneurship is one of the most challenging yet rewarding adventures I have undertaken. It is challenging in today’s market to show up in all of the places and do all of the things in order to promote your business. This is where networking and creating a community around me has been so instrumental! The connections I have made with other fitness instructors and businesses has helped me grow not only my business but also as a person. We can’t do it alone… whatever it is… whether that is life or business!
Lastly, rest. Rest is a skill that I have had to learn and I have not come by it easily. As a naturally driven person, it was easy for me to continue driving and pushing in order to grow my business. However, I soon realized the toll it was beginning to take on my body. Rest is so much more than taking a nap. Rest includes giving yourself permission to take breaks. Rest has to be part of a regular rhythm if you are going to make it for the long haul.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
So many books have been influential for me, but my favorite has to be The Joy of Missing Out by Tonya Dalton. Her book helped me to set mission and vision statements that helped me to align what I truly wanted to pursue and the impact I wanted to have. It was from this place that I had a guideline of opportunities I should say Yes to and what I should say No to in order to protect my own time as well as the business. I tend to have what I call “shiny penny syndrome” and say yes to every new opportunity. Her book helped me to get laser focused which helped me make the things that I do pursue even better.
