We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gracy McGuigan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Gracy, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
Creativity isn’t just something I do, it’s truly part of who I am. It’s in my DNA, woven into every part of me. Whether I’m working on graphic design, baking for my small business Pup Confections, decorating my home, or diving into DIY projects, I’m always brimming with ideas, seeing possibility and magic in the everyday. I find constant inspiration in the little things: colors, patterns, textures, or even a tender moment between a dog and their person.
Pup Confections is a small-batch dog treat brand where I get to blend my love for creativity with my lifelong love for dogs. We make wholesome, healthy treats using only human-grade ingredients, crafted to bring joy not just to pups, but to the pet parents who adore them. For me, this brand is deeply personal.
The real key to keeping my creativity alive is travel and exploration. Getting out there, discovering new places, attending events, and saying yes to experiences I never thought I’d try, that’s where so many unexpected sparks of inspiration come from. The world is full of surprises and beauty, just waiting to fuel the next idea.
I’ve grown up with dogs all my life, and now I’m a proud dog mom of two, with one more on the way. They’re not just pets, they’re family. So it means the world to me to create treats that are both nourishing and joyful. I truly believe our treats aren’t just treats, they’re little moments of celebration.
I also pour that same heart into my branding, designing everything to radiate fun, warmth, and care. I want people to smile the moment they see Pup Confections, to feel that these treats are something special and made with genuine love for their furry family members.
At the end of the day, I just want to keep creating, exploring, and sharing joy, whether that’s developing a new treat, styling a cozy nook in my home, or building a brand that makes people feel happy and seen. It all comes from the same place: a deep passion for bringing a little more love and delight into the world.
I think that’s why dog owners especially connect with what I do because they understand exactly how much happiness our four-legged best friends bring us, and how much we want to give back to them in return. That’s the heart of Pup Confections, and truly, the heart of me.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m the Founder and Creative Director of Pup Confections, a brand born from my lifelong love of dogs and a deep passion for creativity. Growing up with dogs and now being a dog mom to two (with one on the way), I’ve always known how much these furry friends mean to our families.
But losing our first dog, Pixel, to cancer shook us to the core. When we welcomed new pups afterward, it sparked a full-on obsession with creating the very best for them. We didn’t want a quick fix; we needed to master everything about dog treats. This wasn’t just research anymore, it became our mission. We dove headfirst into studying, learning, and perfecting every detail to keep our dogs healthy, happy, and thriving. Because when it comes to our furry family, “good enough” is simply not an option.
That mission is at the heart of Pup Confections. What makes our brand special is the combination of heartfelt care and creativity that goes into everything we do. From developing wholesome, dog-safe recipes using human-grade ingredients to designing playful, thoughtful packaging and branding, each element is crafted with love and attention to detail. We’re creating moments of joy and connection for both pets and their humans, little celebrations in everyday life that bring smiles and wagging tails.
Professionally, I’m focused on growing the brand while staying true to those core values of health, quality, and fun. Right now, we’re excited to be developing our fall line, learning how to decorate treats with icing, and preparing to attend the Austin Country, Folk, & Blues Festival as well as Texas Wienerfest. These opportunities allow us to connect with our community and share our passion with even more dog lovers.
I want readers to know that Pup Confections isn’t just about treats, it’s about love, creativity, and dedication to the dog community. Whether you’re a longtime dog owner or new to the pet parent journey, I hope our brand brings a little extra joy to you and your furry family.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Though Pup Confections is still quite new, having officially launched just last December, there are already a few qualities that have made a huge difference for me: passion, resilience, and a willingness to keep learning.
First, passion is everything. You’ve got to love what you’re doing, for me, that’s dogs and creativity. It’s what keeps me going during long days and fuels my excitement when challenges come up.
Resilience has been just as important. Losing our first dog, Pixel, was one of the hardest experiences my husband and I faced together. It tested us in ways we didn’t expect and pushed us to keep moving forward. Starting a business isn’t easy, you face setbacks and moments when you want to give up. But the strength to bounce back and keep going, even through pain, makes all the difference.
Finally, being open to learning has helped me grow a lot in a short time. From learning about dog nutrition and perfecting recipes to branding and marketing, staying curious and willing to improve has been key.
For anyone just starting out, my advice is to find what truly excites you and hold on tight. Don’t fear setbacks, they’re part of the process and often teach you the most. Keep learning! There’s always something new to discover that will help you grow.
It’s not always easy, but focusing on these qualities will help you build something meaningful from the start.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
We’re always open to partnering and collaborating with others who share a passion for dogs, creativity, and quality pet products. Right now, we’re fortunate to collaborate with some wonderful local businesses and professionals, including Austin dog walking and pet care company Walk ATX, mobile veterinary service AusTexVet, and highly sought-after Realtor Crystal Hirst with Bramlett Partners. We’re also proud to be a Go Texan partner, celebrating and supporting Texas-made products.
One of my favorite parts of working with partners is creating unique treats and custom packaging tailored to their events or brand. Whether it’s for client gifts, community gatherings, or special pop-ups, I love finding creative ways to make each collaboration truly memorable.
I’m especially interested in working with fellow small businesses, local event organizers, pet influencers, and anyone who wants to bring more joy and connection to the dog community.
