Meet Greg Conley

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Greg Conley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Greg below.

Hi Greg, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?

Being the only person in the room who looks like me can be tough sometimes, but it’s also a fantastic opportunity to share my unique perspective. Over the past 31 years, I’ve learned that embracing my identity is the key to connecting with others and making a difference.

One thing I’ve found helpful is being confident in my voice. I make it a point to speak up during discussions and share my thoughts. Not only does this help me navigate new situations, but it also encourages others to think about different viewpoints.

Building genuine relationships is another important piece of the puzzle. I love getting to know my colleagues and learning about their backgrounds and dreams. This helps us find common ground, creating a supportive and collaborative environment. I’ve also realized that feeling uncomfortable is part of the journey. When challenges come my way, I see them as chances to grow. Plus, I stay informed about relevant topics, which helps me engage in discussions and challenge biases effectively.

In the end, being the only person in the room has shown me the value of being true to myself, staying resilient, and embracing diverse perspectives in various fields. It’s all about bringing our unique experiences together to create something wonderful!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Hey everyone, I’m Greg Conley Jr., a multimedia designer passionate about bringing ideas to life through visuals and storytelling.

My journey has been anything but ordinary—from earning my degree in Radio, TV, and Film at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 2016 to building a career and a family. Over the past five years, I’ve had the privilege of creating content, managing social media for brands of all sizes, and traveling across the country.

What excites me most is the intersection of creativity and technology. I love finding innovative ways to solve problems—whether it’s using my camera expertise in lighting and composition to enhance animations or blending digital illustration with motion design to make visuals pop. That passion led me to launch Content by Conley, a business dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices through media. If you have a bold idea the world needs to see, let’s make it happen.

Right now, I’m working on some exciting projects, including custom merchandise, a small video game, 3D-printed accessories, and an original animated show. Each of these ventures combines my love for storytelling, design, and technology in new and exciting ways. Stay tuned—there’s a lot more to come!

But life isn’t all work! When I’m not creating, you can find me gaming, catching the latest movie or anime, traveling, or just kicking back with friends.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, the three most impactful qualities in my journey were curiosity, enthusiasm, and the ability to communicate effectively. These weren’t just traits I had—they were skills I actively developed, and they made all the difference.

My curiosity kept me moving forward. I wasn’t just satisfied with knowing what—I always wanted to know why and how. That mindset led me to unexpected opportunities and creative breakthroughs.

My excitement for what I was doing always seemed to bring people in, opened doors, and kept me going through tough moments. People are naturally drawn to passion, and it makes you unforgettable.

My ability to communicate clearly and authentically helped me connect with the right people and make things happen. Whether it’s pitching a project, networking, or storytelling.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

Over the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been in business administration—especially mastering the financial side of things, from accounting to profitability-focused decision-making and customer support. Coming from a background as a W-2 employee for brands of all sizes, I was used to these responsibilities being handled by dedicated departments. Now, as an entrepreneur, I’ve had to step into those roles myself, learning how each decision directly impacts the bottom line. It’s been a challenging but rewarding shift, giving me a whole new level of control and insight into building a business.
