Meet Greg Martinez

We were lucky to catch up with Greg Martinez recently and have shared our conversation below.

Greg, so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?

My self-discipline comes from a time in my life when I had no discipline.

When I was 17-20, I struggled very badly with a pain pill addiction. Im lucky to be alive! This lifestyle was a very dark period in my life. Through the darkness, I found a purpose. This is why I became a trainer. I wanted to be able to help people the way fitness changed my life. I went from being insecure to confident and wanting to do good in the world.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I love working with people! It’s a great way to make a positive, direct impact on people’s lives and the community around me.

I can work with anyone from the first-time gym goer all the way up to doing conditioning for combat sports athletes.

I’ve been training for 13 years now and have been on my own since 2019,

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Self-reflection, trust, and effort.

There is a lesson in everything, especially when things are not going as you want.

If you can accept responsibility, then you can change.

A lot of times, it’s easy to blame other things to avoid discomfort. When we embrace our failures, we learn and grow from them exponentially.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

Over the past 12 months I have been really focusing on the future. I am thankful for all my clients and the successes I’ve had but I cant train forever.

One principle I really believe in is not trading time for money. Your money should create more time for you.

My most significant focus outside of creating an excellent experience for my clients is how to do this in the fitness industry.

Im currently working on an app with a close friend that will check all the boxes.
