We recently connected with Gretchen Hargrove and have shared our conversation below.
Gretchen, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
My Mother. My mother once said “if you have something, you have something to share”. She was a very selfless woman. She did a lot of volunteer and chaperone work. She is definitely my biggest inspiration.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a creative portrait photographer with a focus mainly on vintage and fantasy sets. My goal is to capture that true magic and essence that is each subject. Each session is customized to bring the vision of each client to life. The most exciting and special part about what I do is I get to just be me, doing the things I love and create the world I want to see. All while meeting the most amazing people. Helping others to see their own magic and find their confidence has helped me do the same.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The things that helped me most in my journey are definitely my determination to grow, my attention to detail and my creativity. My advice to beginners is to never stop shooting. Shoot everything. Find out what feeds your soul & what you’re trying to say with your work. And most importantly stay authentic. Creative doesn’t have to be big and elaborate. It has to be you.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The economy. A lot of people especially photographers, artist, musicians are feeling it. I’m not really sure how to resolve or overcome it. I work a part time job so I can stress a little less and live a little more. I fill the empty bookings with passion projects and building new set concepts.
