Meet Gwak

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Gwak. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with GWAK below.

GWAK, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Confidence and self-esteem start in your mind. It’s easy to doubt yourself, but taking just one step forward can reveal your true potential. With each step, you’ll realize you’re capable of far more than you imagined, and that realization will naturally boost your self-esteem.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I began this year with the goal of making art my profession. Although I sometimes doubt whether I have what it takes to become the artist I aspire to be, I’m giving it everything I’ve got. I’m amazed at some of the pieces I’ve created—things I never thought I could achieve. Throughout my youth, I was labeled as dumb, dyslexic, and severely learning disabled. Even now, as an adult, I struggle with reading and writing. But despite these challenges, I’ve found a way to create something that deeply moves people.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

In my opinion, three things are critical for success as an artist. First, creativity is essential. It’s easy to see many artists simply replicating someone else’s work and taking all the credit. Just because someone is creating doesn’t mean they’re truly creative.

Second, become a doer. I’ve met countless incredibly creative individuals who lack the drive to even start a project. Being creative without the determination to act is like owning a Lamborghini without gas—you’re not going anywhere. So, be a doer.

Third, and most importantly, finish what you start. You know exactly which project I’m talking about. Go finish it.

Skills will come with anything you push hard enough towards but without those three you’ll never be anything worth writing about

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I love collaborating with other artists because it opens my mind to new possibilities and directions I might not explore on my own. It also creates a strong bond with the person I’m working with. However, for someone to collaborate with me, they need to be doing something truly out-of-the-box and wild. The more unique their approach, the more interested I am.
